    Abstract: 1355265 Sulphur-containing silanes; rubber compositions DEUTSCHE GOLD-UND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT 19 July 1971 [18 July 1970] 33710/71 Headings C3S C3E C3P and C3Q Novel sulphur-containing silanes of the formula A-X-Z, wherein A denotes -SCN, R 2 S-CSS- or (R 3 ) 2 N-CSS-, R denotes H, -SH or -N(R 1 ) 2 , R 1 denotes H, phenyl or C 1-5 alkyl, R 2 denotes a monovalent C 1-15 hydrocarbon or heterocyclic radical, R 3 denotes H or a monovalent C 1-15 hydrocarbon radical, or both R 3 substituents together with the nitrogen atom form a heterocyclic radical, X denotes a C 3-18 divalent hydrocarbon radical optionally interrupted by O, S and/or N atoms and optionally substituted by halogen, pseudohalogen, phenyl, halophenyl, (C 1-3 alkyl)phenyl or di(C 1-3 alkyl)- phenyl, Z denotes -SiR 4 (OR 5 ) 2 , -Si(OR 5 ) 3 , and R 4 and R 5 independently denote -CH 3 , -CH 2 CH 3 , -CH 2 CH 2 CH 3 , -CH(CH 3 ) 2 or -CH 2 CH 2 CH 2 CH 3 , and other silanes of the formula A-X-Z, wherein A alternatively denotes R 2 O-CSS-, are prepared by reacting halogen -X-Z with A-Me or with A-H in the presence of an acid binding agent, wherein halogen denotes Cl, Br or I and Me denotes ammonium, hydrocarbon-substituted ammonium, an alkali or alkaline earth metal, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Zn, Cd, Cu or Ag. Examples describe the preparation of 3-thiocyanatopropyl triethoxysilane, 3 - triethoxysilyl - propyl. ethyl - xanthogenate, 3 - thiocyanatopropyl tri - n - butoxysilane, and 2 - diethylamino- 4 - mercapto - 6 - (3 - triethoxy - silyl - propyl)- thiotriazine. The above compounds may be used either as vulcanization agents in the crosslinking of elastomers or as a binding agency between inorganic fillers and organic polymers, the required effects occurring in the presence of residual moisture in the mix and in the presence or absence of conventional accelerators or activators. Examples describe the vulcanization of styrene-butadiene and natural rubbers using the above compounds as vulcanizing agents added to the mix or used to pre-treat silica fillers, the vulcanization being carried out in the presence of sulphur and the presence or absence of conventional additives such as zinc oxide, stearic acid, dibenzothiazyl disulphide and diphenyl guanidine.

    Abstract: Silica containing mixtures for the improvement of the adhesion of vulcanizable mixtures of natural and/or synthetic rubber to reinforcing fillers or supports of textile and/or metallic fabrics after the vulcanization are prepared that substantially consist of (A) active synthetically produced silica or silicates having a specific surface area according to the BET procedure of about 50 to 500 m2/g and an average primary particle size of from about 5 to 100 and at least one of (B) phenolic resin or aminoplast forming components, namely on the one hand phenols and/or amines and on the other hand aldehydes or aldehyde donors, and/or at least (C) one organosilane which can be a bisalkoxysilylalkyl-oligosulfide of the formula I.     Abstract: Sulphur-contg. organosilicon cpds. Z-Alk-Sn-Alk-Z (I) (where Z =Si(R1)(R1)(R2) - Si(R1)(R2)(R2) or -Si(R2)(R2)(R2), R1 = 1-4C alkyl or phenyl, R2 = 1-8C (esp. 1-4C) alkyl or 5-8C cycloalkyl or 1-8C straight or branched alkylmercapto gp. Alk = opt. unsatd. straight or branched opt. cyclic 1-18C (esp. 1-6C or pref. 2 or 3C) hydrocarbon gp. and n = 2-6) are prepd. by reacting 2 mols. of a cpd. Z-alk-Hal where Hal = Cl, Br or I with 1 mol. of a cpd. Me2Sn in which Me = ammonium or metal atom, esp. alkali metal such as Na, pref. in an org. solvent such as acetone or an alcohol, at elevated temps. followed by filtering off the metal halide formed and distillation of the solvent under reduced pressure to leave the (I) as residue.
