Abstract: 4-Methyleneoxazolidine-2,5-diones of the general formula in which the substituents R and R have certain meanings, are prepared by reacting 2-azidocarboxylic acids of the general formula with phosgene or diphosgene in an inert solvent at a temperature between 0 and 150@C in the presence of a perrhenate. The compounds of the general formula (I) are useful starting compounds for the preparation of 2-amino-2,3-dehydrocarboxylic acids and dehydrooligopeptides.

(I) comprises reacting aldehydes with hydrocyanic acid in the presence of D-oxynitrilase and an organic solvent which is immiscible with water but is satd. with water or an aq. buffer soln. Pref. the organic solvent is an aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon, a chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbon, an ether, an alkyl ester of a carboxylic acid or an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic alcohol. The organic solvent is pref. satd. with an aq. buffer of pH 3-8.
