    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject copolymer having reduced unpleasant smell by exposing a reaction product of a mixture composed of a specific polyether compound, a specified copolymer and a prescribed hydrosilylation catalyst to a hydrogen gas under a specific condition. SOLUTION: (A) A mixture comprising (i) an alkenyl functional polyether compound, (ii) a polydiorganosiloxane polyorganohydrogensiloxane copolymer (preferably a polydimethylsiloxane-polymethylhydrogensiloxane copolymer containing a trimethylsiloxy end) and (iii) a homogeneous transition metal hydrosilylation catalyst is reacted and (B) the reaction product of the process A is exposed to a hydrogen gas at 20-200 deg.C under 6.9×101 to 1.38×103 kPa for 0.1-48 hours. The preferable amounts of the components in the mixture of the process A are 1-99 wt.% of the component (i) and 1-99 wt.% of the component (ii). The amount of the component (iii) is an amount enough to provide 0.01-100 pts.wt. of a transition metal based on 1,000,000 pts.wt. of the component (i).

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a siloxane-based polyamide useful as a thickening agent for preparation of a cosmetic composition by heating a mixture of an olefinic acid and an organic diamine and then reacting the resultant product with polydimethylsiloxane in the presence of a hydrosilylation catalyst so as to cut expensive process(es). SOLUTION: This polyamide having at least one repeating unit of the formula (X is a 1-30C alkylene chain; Y is a 1-20C alkylene chain; R1 to R4 are each methyl, ethyl or the like; DP is 10-500; (n) is 1-500) is obtained by heating a reaction mixture comprising an olefinic acid and an organic diamine at >100 deg.C to yield the corresponding organic diamide and then reacting the organic diamide with a hydride-terminated polydimethylsiloxane in the presence of a hydrosilylation catalyst. Preferably, the organic diamine is a compound of the formula H2N-R5-NH2 (R5 is a 1-40C alkylene chain) (pref. hexamethylenediamine).
