Abstract:
An interactive dispenser (10), used to provide a powdered, liquid or personal use or care chemical, can provide a message prompted by the proximity of a user to a sensor. Proximity, as it relates to this invention, relates to the nearness of a user to a sensor, either mounted in a remote location or mounted on the dispenser that prompts the dispenser to provide a message for the user. The message can be provided in a visual message such as an electronic scroll, an aural message derived from an electronic voice synthesizer.
Abstract:
The invention is a process for preventing microbial growth in aqueous streams by applying peracetic acid to the aqueous stream. Generally, the process of the invention is applicable to aqueous steams used in any number of applications such as the application of streams for the transport of fruits or vegetables into the processing environment and through the various steps of processing.
Abstract:
The invention relates to treatment of aqueous streams and aqueous systems with ozone. The aqueous stream comprises a closed loop system providing transport from a production locus to a processing locus for a variety of products. The aqueous stream can contain a challenge soil load and a microbial load. A treatment zone is defined through which the aqueous stream passes. The treatment zone is contacted with a sufficient concentration of ozone to substantially reduce the microbial population and to substantially reduce the number of microorganisms that can generate slime on the interior of the system. An amount of ozone is added to the aqueous stream in the treatment zone such that once the microbial populations are reduced to a safe level, the ozone concentration is also reduced to a level substantially safe for contact with operating personnel and product. Typically, such concentration is less than one part by weight of ozone per million parts by weight of aqueous system, preferably less than 0.5 parts by weight of ozone per million parts of aqueous system. The use of a treatment zone in an aqueous system segregates the ozone from release into areas frequented by operating personnel, sensitive materials or product.
Abstract:
A vented closure device (10) is disclosed which is useful in operation with shipping packaged liquids in containers, such as drums (11). The vented closure device (10) incorporates at least one liquid impermeable, gas permeable membrane (20, 25, 32) to prevent leakage of the liquid contents and contains a scrubbing media (26) which acts to prevent the release of undesirable chemical vapors from the shipping container (11) into the atmosphere. The scrubbing media (26) may be an activated carbon absorber.
Abstract:
The passage of a container along a conveyor is lubricated by applying to the container or conveyor a lubricating coating that is thermally cured at less than 200° C. or radiation-cured. The mixture can be applied in relatively low amounts and with relatively low or no water content, to provide thin, substantially non-dripping, renewable lubricating films. In contrast to dilute aqueous lubricants, the lubricants of the invention provide dry lubrication of the conveyors and containers, a cleaner conveyor line and reduced lubricant usage, thereby reducing waste, cleanup and disposal problems.
Abstract:
We have found a new and useful process to generate peroxy acid sanitizing and bleaching compositions at the point-of-use, the process comprising introducing hydrogen peroxide and a carboxylic acid into a reactor at about 0.1 to 10 moles of hydrogen peroxide per mole of acid, and contacting the hydrogen peroxide and carboxylic acid in the presence of a sulfonic acid resin and in the substantial abssence of active metal ions which forms an aqueous peroxy acid composition at a concentration from about up to 20 wt %. Using this process, warewashing, laundry sanitizing and bleach, and hard surface sanitizing compositions can be produced.
Abstract:
Both a process and a method of using peracid compositions, especially mixed peracid systems, to treat field or greenhouse grown plant tissue, seeds, fruits, and growing media and containers. The peracid can lower the natural, plant pathogen and human pathogenic microbial load resulting in less waste to molding, spoilage, and destruction because of pathogenic poisons.
