    Abstract: A microphone (1) comprises a transducer (2) and a mode controller (11). The microphone has a normal operating mode (M 0 ) and a collapse mode (M 1 ). The mode controller (11) switches to the collapse mode (M 1 ) when an output signal of the transducer (2) reaches or exceeds a predefined threshold value (S 0 ) and switches to the normal operating mode (M 0 ) when the output signal reaches or falls below a predefined further threshold value (S 1 ).
