    Abstract: In a method of link quality control for communication links between a plurality of mobile terminals and a node in a radio communication system, providing (S0) at least one data block for transmission between said node and at least one of said mobile terminals, providing (S1) at least two measurement reports comprising measurements of the quality for a plurality of potential burst constellations on which to transmit said at least one data block, jointly selecting (S2) a respective burst constellation for each said at least one data block based at least on said measurement reports, jointly selecting (S3) a respective modulation and coding scheme for each said data block based at least on said measurement reports. Subsequently, scheduling (S4) bursts for transmission on at least one available channel based at least on said jointly selected modulation and coding scheme and said jointly selected burst constellation.

    Abstract: The present invention pertains to power control in cellular networks (1). A power control algorithm (201) is operated to control transmission powers on radio links (downlinks and/or uplinks). An information collector (203; 127) is adapted to collect power distribution information indicating how the transmission powers of a selected plurality of radio links are distributed in a dynamic power range extending from a minimum power level Pmin to a maximum power level Pmax. A feedback generator (205; 129) is adapted to generate feedback for modifying the operation of the power control algorithm (201) based on the power distribution information. The feedback makes the operation of the power control algorithm (201) less sensitive to initial settings of operational parameters and varying conditions in the radio environment. The burden on the operator to select optimal settings for operational parameters is therefore lowered. The invention can be achieved using conventional measurement reports from user terminals.

    Abstract: In a cellular radio telecommunications system that employs frequency hopping , system performance can be significantly improved by more fully exploiting interference diversity, while maintaining frequency diversity, which is already associated with frequency hopping techniques. In order to more fully exploit interference diversity, each mobile station operating in a cell is allocated, in addition to a frequency hopping sequence, a frequency offset hopping sequence such that each mobile station hops from one frequency to th e next frequency as a function of the frequency hopping sequence and its allocated frequency offset hopping sequence. This technique is readily applicable to increase both intercell and intracell interference diversity i n unsynchronized or synchronizhed cells.
