Abstract: A method of manufacturing a photochromic molded article which comprises the steps of: filling a mold with a photopolymerizable monomer composition containing a photopolymerizable monomer, a photoinitiator and a photochromic compound capable of coloring upon UV irradiation; pre-heating the composition to a temperature which reduces or prevents coloration of the photochromic compound during the subsequent photopolymerization step; and photopolymerizing the composition under irradiation with a light comprising a UV portion and a UV-visible portion.

Abstract: A method of transferring a portion of a functional film (1) onto a substrate from a base plate (100) comprises the formation of a groove (S1) which passes through the said functional film and also a separating film (2) placed between the functional film and the base plate. A portion (2p) of the separating film is then detached from the base plate with the portion of the functional film. The portion of said separating film protects the portion of the functional film in the rest of the method. According to one improvement, the portion of the functional film which is detached from the base plate comprises a useful portion (1p) and a margin (1m) that are connected together by the portion (2p) of the separating film. The useful portion (1p) of the functional film may then be gripped and handled via the margin (1m).

Abstract: Un procédé de transfert d'une portion d'un film fonctionnel (1) sur un substrat, à partir d'une plaque de base (100), comprend la formation d'un sillon (S1) qui traverse ledit film fonctionnel ainsi qu'un film de séparation (2) disposé entre le film fonctionnel et la plaque de base. La portion dudit film de séparation protège la portion du film fonctionnel dans la suite du procédé. Selon un perfectionnement, la portion du film fonctionnel qui est détachée de la plaque de base comprend une portion utile (1p) et une marge (1m) reliées entre elles par la portion (2p) du film de séparation. La portion utile (1p) du film fonctionnel peut alors être saisie et manipulée par la marge (1m).

Abstract: The procedure consists of a staged flow, starting from zero with an initial flow (A) and leading to a nominal flow rate (Dn) of over 40 grams per minute (g/min) which is maintained for a period (B) during which the mold is filled, and a final reduced flow (C) coming back to zero. The initial flow stage (A) has two phases: a first phase (A1) in which the mold is filled to a depth of of at least 2 mm, and preferably up to 7 mm, in its deepest part at a flow rate of under 20 g/min, followed by a second phase (A2) in which the flow rate is increased to nominal (Dn). The first phase itself is divided into two sections: a first section (A11) building up from zero to a first flow rate (Dd) of some 3 - 8 g/min, and a second section (A12) in which the first flow rate is maintained for a period of 4 - 10 seconds. The mold cavity is filled through a needle valve and an orifice in its base, and the polymerization of the molded material is initiated immediately after the cavity is filled.
