    Abstract: Higher dialkyl lower dialkyl phosphonium chloride salts, derived via quaternarization of phosphines with primary chlorides, have unexpected surfactant biocidal properties. Such quaternary salts are broad spectrum bactericides, fungicides and algicides, highly effective against gram negative organisms even in hard water. They are also useful as intermediates for the synthesis of quaternary phosphonium clays.

    Abstract: 1317598 Pesticidal adducts of thiophosphorus acids and N-vinyl compounds ESSO RESEARCH & ENG CO 1 June 1970 26315/70 Heading C2P The invention comprises compounds of Formula I: where X is oxygen or sulphur, R 1 and R 2 are C 1-4 alkyl, alkylthio or alkoxy, or phenyl, R 3 is optionally halo-substituted phenylsulphonyl and R 4 is C 1-4 alkyl, or R 3 and R 4 , together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached, form a phthalimido, pyrrolidono, carbazolo, tetrahydrophthalimido, succinimido, benzoxazol-2(3H)-onyl or 1,3,4-thiadiazol-5(4H)-onyl group, each of said groups being optionally substituted by one or more halogen atoms, nitro groups and/or C 1-4 alkyl and/or C 1-4 alkoxy groups. The compounds of Formula I may be prepared by reacting a compound of Formula II: with a compound of Formula III: in the liquid phase. The compounds of Formula I have pesticidal properties and may be used as the active ingredients in conventional pesticidal compositions.

    Abstract: Described is a carbonylation process using novel homogeneous trihydrocarbyl silyl-substituted alkyl diaryl phosphine transition metal complexes of the general formula: [(Ar2PQ)ySiR4-y]g(MXn)s wherein Ar is a C6 to C10 aromatic hydrocarbyl radical, Q is a C1 to C30 saturated straight chain divalent radical, R is a C1 to C10 hydrocarbyl, wherein Ar, Q and R, can be substituted or unsubstituted, y is 1 to 4, g times y is 1 to 6, M is a transition metal selected from the group consisting of Group VIII transition metals, X is an anion or organic ligand excluding halogen satisfying the valence and coordination sites of the metal, n is 2 to 6 and s is 1 to 3, are disclosed. These materials exhibit high thermal stability and are superior catalysts for the selective hydroformylation of olefins, particularly in the presence of excess quantities of ligand of the formula: (Ar2PQ)ySiR4-y wherein Ar, Q, R, and y are as previously defined. Specifically, tris-(trimethyl silyl-ethyl diphenyl phosphine) rhodium carbonyl hydride, [(CH3)3Si-CH2CH2-PPh2]3Rh(CO)H and tris [bis-(diphenylphosphinoethyl) dimethyl silane] rhodium carbonyl hydride, [(CH3)2Si-CH2CH2-PPh2]3Rh(CO)H, are selective olefin hydroformylation catalysts, particularly in the presence of excess trihydrocarbyl silyl-substituted alkyl diaryl phosphine ligand.
