Abstract: A method for viewing a process section in a process plant comprises presenting, by one or more processors on a display 300, a process section 302 depicting a portion of a plant including graphic representations of a plurality of entities within the plant. A navigation tool (404, fig 4), allows navigation to another portion of the plant. Upon receiving a navigation indication, the display presents at least a portion of the process section whilst simultaneously presenting a preview 304 of one or more other process sections in the plant. The navigation tool may include a bar (448, fig 6) depicting a trail of hierarchy in relation to the structure of the plant, a list of items, or a search tool (420, fig 5). The preview of the other process sections may be presented in a lower resolution than that of the original process section and the user may also input a further navigation command to present a full view of the other process sections. The preview may include an alert within at least one of the other process sections.

Abstract: A method for presenting an operator display in accordance with a layout comprises executing an operator application on a computing device in an operating environment of a process plant. The operator application obtains a plurality of display views 852, each depicting control elements included in the operating environment of the process plant. The operator application also obtains a layout for presenting the plurality of display views, where the layout divides a user interface into one or more display regions and defines a display view type for each of the one or more display regions 854. The one or more display regions are presented according to the layout and the one or more of the display views are presented according to the display view type for each display region. The display views may be provided with an indication of a level of detail, and some of the display views may be subviews. An indication of relationships between display regions within the layout may be obtained, and the relationship may be a hierarchy where a user can make a selection to navigate through levels of the hierarchy, viewing different levels of detail 860, 862.

Abstract: Techniques for synchronizing configuration changes in a process plant allow for intelligent and efficient updates to objects and related dependent objects. Additionally, techniques for synchronizing minor configuration changes in a process plant enable real-time updates to objects during run-time. Such techniques reduce the amount of downtime for online operation of the process plant and reduce the amount of information transmitted over the process control network. Each object may correspond to a process entity and dependent objects may be referenced by or may reference the object. In some cases, when an engineer modifies an object, dependent objects with respect to the modified object that have pending modifications are identified and displayed to the engineer. The engineer then selects the dependent objects to sync with the modified object and the dependent objects and modified object are synced and executed by a corresponding device in the run-time system.

Abstract: Module-based systems and methods are described for controlled roll-out of module classes for configuring a process plant. Abstract: A module-based method allows for controlled roll-out of module classes for configuring a process plant (10, figure 1). A second version of a module class (52) is generated based on a modification to a first version of the module class, where the module class is associated with one or more module instances (256a, figure 2) that are each associated with a process control element. A roll-out instruction to update an upgraded process control element is executed, where the upgraded process control element is associated with a new module instance based on the second version of the module class. Non-upgraded process control elements remain associated with the previous module instance based on the first version of the module class. Modification to the first version of the module class includes adding one or more inputs to the module class, and the system further accesses one or more inputs to facilitate at least partial control of the upgraded process control element. One or more inputs to the module class are one or more feedback inputs.

A full view of the other process section including not presenting the first process section may be presented on request. Process parameters of process plant entities may be adjustable in preview mode.
