    Abstract: Method and device for detecting the presence of a part in a mechanical assembly. According to the method, an ultrasonic emitter 10 is applied at a chosen location in the mechanical assembly and an ultrasonic receiver 12 at another location in this assembly, separated from the first by a path which of necessity passes through the member 8 whose presence it is desired to monitor, an ultrasonic wave is emitted, the time of flight of the ultrasonic wave between the emitter 10 and the receiver 12 is measured, and this measured time T is compared with at least one predetermined set-point value T0, T'0, the presence or absence of the member is deduced from the value of the difference between at least one of the set-point values T0, T'0 and the measured value T. Preferably, an upper reference value T'0 and a lower reference value T0 are determined, the measured value T is compared with T0, a signal indicating the absence of a washer is displayed if T is less than T0 or greater than T'0.

    Abstract: According to the invention, a piezoelectric measuring sensor 1 receives, by solid conduction in a steel component having the form of a seal 34, the acoustic waves generated by the interaction between the flow 31 whose flow rate is to be measured, and a lug 32 formed on this component inside this flow. A reference sensor 11 makes it possible to disregard the background noise existing in the same frequency range. The invention applies in particular to the monitoring of auxiliary systems in nuclear power stations.
