    Abstract: A metal wall is heated to over 90, preferably 120-180 deg. C while in contact with an aqueous solution at above atmospheric pressure to induce a chemical reaction which coats the wall with nickel. Also claimed is coating the interiors of the tubes (5) of a steam generator associated with a pressurised water-cooled nuclear reactor by a chemical reaction, wherein an aqueous solution is circulated through the tubes, which are heated by circulating a hot liquid (21), preferably water at elevated pressure, around the outsides of the tubes in the secondary coolant space.

    Abstract: A method of checking the housing condition of a tube (4) in at least 1 opening passing through a plate (6) consists of causing it to vibrate and checking at least 1 vibration characteristic such as the resonance frequency and the damping. This characteristic is then compared with predetermined data so that the housing condition may be deduced. Also claimed is a device for carrying out this control check of a tube (4) housed in a cross-tie plate (6) of a steam generator that consists of a measurement and excitation head (15) of a size that can be inserted into a steam generator tube (4), means for anchoring the head inside the tube, a flexible tube (14) through which cables can pass to the head from an external control box (17) and means (11) for handling the head and axially aligning it in a particular tube (4).
