Abstract: The process comprises dismantling the part of the valve containing the shut-off element (8) and control mechanism (9) from the seat (4), and building up the worn seat ring (10) by plasma transfer arc (PTA) welding of a pre-alloyed metal powder, and then machining the metal deposit. The build-up weld is made after machining away part of the worn seat ring and fitting weld supports round the valve seat to receive the new metal deposit, e.g. of Stellite, using a tungsten electrode and an inert gas.
