    Abstract: Tapped holes machined in the flange of a reactor vessel are optically controlled using a video camera and a flat laser beam parallel to the axis of the hole and inclined with respect to the optical axis of the camera.- DETAILED DESCRIPTION - The camera carried on a turret and the laser beam are rotated about the axis of the tapped hole so that an image of the surface is provided on which the meridian profile of the tapping appears generated by the intersection of the flat laser beam and the threads. The camera and the source of the beam are moved automatically around the circumference of the flange so they are inserted in each of the holes on a trolley moving on the upper surface of the flange
