Abstract:
The present invention provides a pigment dispersion containing at least a pigment at a concentration of from 2 to 50 mass% in the pigment dispersion, and a polymer having from 2 to 50 mass% of repeating units represented by the following formula (1) and from 2 to 40 mass% of repeating units represented by the following formula (2), and having a weight average molecular weight of 10,000 to 500,000. In formula (1), R 1 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, I represents -CO-, -COO-, etc., R 2 represents an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms. In formula (2), R 4 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, J represents -CO-, -COO-, etc., R 5 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, etc., W represents a single bond or a bivalent linking group, and P represents a heterocyclic residue having a hetero ring contained in an organic pigment.

An ink composition of the present invention includes, (a) a polymer compound which includes a repeating unit (a-1) having a partial structure expressed by the following General Formula (1), a repeating unit (a-2) which has a hydrophilic group and accounts for 8% to 25% by mass with respect to the total mass of the polymer compound, and a repeating unit (a-3) having a hydrophobic group, the polymer compound having a solubility parameter in an unneutralized state of 20.7 MPa1'2 to 23.0 MPa1/2; (b) water; and (c) a water-soluble organic solvent.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pigment dispersion excellent in fine pigment dispersion and its stability, and to provide an ink composition containing the same, capable of forming printed images with clear color tone and high coloring power, thus suitable to ink-jet printing applications. SOLUTION: The pigment dispersion comprises (a) a pigment, (b) a compound of general formula (1) and (c) a basic pigment dispersant. In the general formula (1), R 1 is a (m+n)-valent organic linkage group; R 2 and R 3 are each a single bond or divalent organic linkage group; wherein, either one of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 contains sulfur atom(s); A 1 is a monovalent heterocyclic residue having a heterocyclic group in the organic pigment; n is 1-6; m is 2-10; wherein, (m+n) is 3-11; and A 2 is a monovalent acidic group. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pigment dispersion excellent in dispersibility of a fine pigment and its stability and having a vivid color tone, and an ink composition excellent in dispersibility of a fine pigment and its stability, having a vivid color tone and high coloring power, and capable of forming a high-quality image. SOLUTION: The pigment dispersion includes at least (a) a polymer including a repeating unit represented by general formula (1) and (b) a pigment. The ink composition includes the pigment dispersion.
