A litz wire includes, in one embodiment, a plurality of twisted strands, wherein one or more of the strands includes a composite magnet wire. The composite magnet wire includes a metal wire having a nanocoating on its outer surface. The nanocoating includes an electrical insulating polyimide matrix and a plurality of alumina nano particles dispersed homegenueoslytherein. The alumina nano particles have a phenyl siloxane surface coating. The litz wire has a temperature index of at least 300°C as obtained in accordance with either ASTM El 641, ASTM El 877, or ASTM D2307. Motors and ESP assemblies utilizing the litz wire are also disclosed.

A method of applying an outer insulation to a bare stator bar to form an insulated stator bar. The method entails extruding at least one extruded member that will form the outer insulation. The extruded member has an opposing pair of edges that are parallel to the longitudinal length of the extruded member. In addition, the extrusion process creates an inner cavity that extends the longitudinal length of the extruded member. A bare stator bar is then inserted into the inner cavity of the outer insulation so that the outer insulation surrounds the perimeter of the bar and extends along a longitudinal length thereof. The opposing pair of edges of the extruded member are then attached together so that the perimeter of the bar is entirely enclosed by the extruded member.

In one aspect of the present invention, a method for increasing the dielectric breakdown strength of a polymer is described. The method comprises providing the polymer and contacting a surface of the polymer in a reaction chamber with a gas plasma, under specified plasma conditions. The polymer is selected from the group consisting of a polymer having a glass transition temperature of at least about 150°C, and a polymer composite comprising at least one inorganic constituent. The contact with the gas plasma is carried out for a period of time sufficient to incorporate additional chemical functionality into a surface region of the polymer film, to provide a treated polymer. Also provided are an article and method of manufacture.

Rotor and stator assemblies that utilize magnetic bearings for supporting th e rotor shaft during operation can be suitably used in corrosive environments, such as sour gas. The rotor and stator assemblies include NACE compliant magnetic bearing arrangements for sour gas applications. One embodiment includes the use of barrier layers (106) disposed on selected exposed surfaces of the rotor shaft assemb ly (100) and/or stator assembly (60). Also disclosed are processes for forming encapsulated stators (60) that exhibit improved corrosion resistance, as well as corrosio n resistant materials for backup bearing races (206) and (208) and landing sleeves (108) .
