    Abstract: Disclosed is a tubular casing consisting of a cellulose web or of a fiber-reinforced cellulose web, which is curved to form a tube and the longitudinal edge regions of which are bonded by an adhesive. On the inside and/or outside of the tubular casing, there is optionally a smoke-permeable adhesion-promoting layer, in particular a layer of a heat-cured cationic resin. The smoke-permeable adhesive layer contains a condensation product, cured at room temperature, of a polyamide-polyamine, an aliphatic polyamine or a polyamide with bifunctional halohydrins or derivatives thereof, such as epichlorohydrin. Optionally, the tubular casing is shirred, preferably with helical displacement of the seam zone. Also disclosed are processes for manufacturing the tubular casing and for using it as a packaging wrap for foodstuffs, in particular as an artificial sausage casing which can be smoked.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a cylindrically-shaped hollow rod which is closed at one end, comprising a shirred tubular casing, and an integral, essentially cylindrically-shaped, plug-type closure element which is coaxially arranged in the cavity of the hollow rod and which comprises a deshirred tubing portion and an irregularly folded, compressed tubing portion, wherein a first one of the tubing portions is adjacent to the inside wall of the hollow rod, and the second tubing portion is surrounded by the first tubing portion, wherein one end of the first tubing portion, which points in the direction of the open end of the hollow rod, is bent back at an angle of 180 DEG and integrally changes into the second portion, and wherein the other end of the first tubing portion integrally changes into the hollow rod. Also disclosed is a process for producing the hollow rod having the end closure according to the invention.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a tubular sausage casing of a cellulose material having a longitudinal seam region whereat is located a smoke-permeable adhesive-containing layer of a substantially water-insoluble cationic resin which is a condensation product of a polyamide-polyamine, an aliphatic polyamine or polyamide with bifunctional halohydrin or derivative thereof. The casing also includes a coating on its inside surface of an oily emulsion having a first component comprising a water-soluble cellulose ether or a water-soluble modified starch, and a second component comprising an oil and an emulsifier. Also disclosed is a process for producing this casing and sausage products made therefrom.
