    Abstract: Disclosed is a tubular casing comprising a fiber-reinforced regenerated cellulose wherein the fiber-reinforcement comprises a fiber web comprising first and second edge regions, parallel to the longitudinal axis, which are overlapped and bonded to form a tube; an impregnation layer of a thermoplastic synthetic resin applied on the entire inwardly-facing surface of the fiber-reinforcement and present in a weight per unit area of less than about 50 g/m2, the impregnation layer comprising the bond for the edge regions; and a regenerated cellulose surface on the outer surface of the fiber-reinforcement. Also disclosed is a process for manufacturing the tubular casing.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a tubular casing of fiber-reinforced regenerated cellulose comprising a film web which is curved to form a tube. The edge regions of the film web, which run parallel to the longitudinal axis, abut or overlap slightly and are sealed by means of a film strip which covers both the edge regions. The film web and the film strip composed of the same material have, in the wet remoistened stage, a breaking strength of about 15 to 30 N/mm2 and an elongation at break of about 30 to 50% in the longitudinal direction of the web, and a breaking strength of about 15 to 35 N/mm2 and an elongation at break of about 30 to 50% in the transverse direction of the web. The breaking strength in the transverse direction of the web is equal to or greater than that in the longitudinal direction of the web. On its entire surface facing the film strip, the tubular casing has a substantially gas-impermeable and sealable layer, as has the film strip on the surface which comes into contact with the tubular casing. The film web is produced from viscose, and is prevented from shrinking during the process and is stretched in the transverse direction during drying. The tubular casing finds particular application as a sausage casing.

    Abstract: Media capable of flowing are removed from or introduced into the interior of a hose, esp. of fibre-reinforced cellulose hydrate. At least one passage is formed in the wall of the hose and the media capable of flowing are passed through this, either into or out of the interior. The passage or passages are then closed by covering. A piece of an integral hose section is laid flat by pressing it together on a support having a horizontal flat surface. In the free wall of the flat, supported piece of hose, at least one opening is made, and media capable of flowing are put in or withdrawn from it. A covering section of film, free from adhesive, is introduced from outside into the cavity of the flattened hose section and is applied to the inside of the hose wall so as to cover the opening. The passage is then closed by a section of film coated with an adhesive. This film is pressed against the hose wall where it overlaps the opening and against the covering piece of film in the cavity of the hose so that it adheres. For pref. the adhesive is an alpha cyanacrylate polymer possibly with isocyanate or epoxy compounds added. The covering film is cellulose hydrate. Improves the existing techniques for the production of continuous hoses of cellulose hydrate from viscose so that fluids and gas collecting inside can be removed, and if necessary a fluid for forming an internal coating inside the tube can be introduced, without wasting a large amt. of hose.

    Abstract: In the process for producing filled tubular packages a film web is bent around its longitudinal axis and formed into a tube. The two longitudinally axially extending edge regions of the web are joined overlapping using a smoke-permeable, adhesive layer containing a pressure-sensitive adhesive, the adhesive layer if necessary being anchored on the web material by an adhesion-permitting resin. The flowable compound is simultaneously forced into the formed tube. In order to join the edge regions of the web, the prefabricated adhesive layer, which is disposed on a backing tape with anti-adhesive surfaces, is transferred with the backing tape to at least one of the overlapping surfaces in the edge region of the web and the backing tape is pulled off the transferred adhesive layer.
