Abstract: Cyanoacetanilides of formula (I) are new: (where in formula (I) R1,R2 and R3 are each independently 1-3C alkyl, alkoxy or alkylthio (partly or completely substd. by some or different halo), halo, NO2, CN, 1-3C alkoxycarbonyl; also R1 and R2 can be H in which case R3 is not CH3 but may additionally be phenyl or phenoxy both opt. substd. by 1 or 2 F, Cl, Br, I or 1-3C alkyl or alkoxy; or R1 is H and R2 and R3 are methylenedioxy or complete a naphthalene ring; M is H, alkali metal or NH4). They are prepd. from the corresp. acetanilides by: (i) reacting with orthoformates; (ii) cyclising with NH2OH; then (iii) treating the isoxazole formed with base. Cpds. (I) are antiphlogistics and analgesics more powerful than phenylbutazone and without ulcerogenic effects at therapeutic doses.

Abstract: A 2-hydroxyethylidene-cyano acetic acid anilide is prepared by heating an acetoacetic acid anilide with an orthoformic acid ester and acetic anhydride, isolating the resulting 2-alkoxymethylene-acetoacetic acid anilide and treating it with hydroxylamine and the isoxazole so obtained with a base, and optionally reacting the resulting alkali metal or ammonium salt with a mineral acid or a strong organic acid. The compounds of the invention have anti-inflammatory and analgetic activity.

Abstract: The invention relates to the recovery of antimony pentachloride from catalyst solutions, which are used for the fluorination of chlorosubstituted methanes or ethanes. The process is based on the reduction of antimony pentachloride, which is dissolved in a used catalyst solution by means of trichloroethylene, at a temperature of from 100 DEG C to 170 DEG C. The crystalline antimony trichloride obtained precipitates from the solution and is separated from all the impurities. The antimony trichloride obtained can be re-oxidized to form antimony pentachloride by any known process.
