Abstract: Vinyl acetate is prepd. by gas-phase reaction of C2H4, AcOH and O2 or O2-contg. gases in contact with a supported catalyst contg. 0.01-0.6 wt. % Au and 0.5-2.2 wt. % Cd, as elements and/or cpds., in addn. to Pd, as metal and/-or cpd., and alkali acetate. The catalyst may contain 0.5-5 wt. % Pd and 0.01-5 wt. % alkali acetate. The gas mixt. is passed over catalyst at 100-200 degrees C under 1-20 bar pressure. Vinyl acetate is prepd. in high yields and constant space-time yields.
