    Abstract: The process involves the polymerisation of unsaturated esters with unsaturated polymerisable monomers containing no free COOH groups, the unsaturated esters used being olefinically unsaturated OH-containing diesters obtained by reacting an anhydride of an olefinically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid with a monoepoxide compound, characterised in that the olefinically unsaturated OH-containing diesters are previously obtained, in a single step, by reacting an anhydride of the olefinically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid, the polyhydric alcohol and the monoepoxide compound, and the use of the copolymers prepared in this way as curable binders for paints and/or coatings.

    Abstract: A process for the preparation of copolymers containing hydroxyl groups by radical reaction of (A) 10 to 30% by weight of at least one glycidyl ester containing 12 to 14 carbon atoms, of an aliphatic saturated monocarboxylic acid with a tertiary or quaternary alpha -carbon atom; and (B) 90 to 70% by weight of at least two unsaturated copolymerisable monomers, at least one of which contains at least one carboxyl group, wherein component (A) is introduced first to a reaction zone and is then reacted at a temperature of at least 140 DEG C. with component (B) and a radical initiator, the component (B) containing a monomer having carboxyl groups, wherein for the preparation of low-viscosity copolymers component (A) is reacted at 140 to 200 DEG C. by substance polymerisation until a degree of reaction of at least 95% is achieved, the component (B) containing at least 3.3% by weight of the monomer having carboxyl groups, and an article coated with a product of said process.

    Abstract: Process for the manufacture of hardenable copolymers by the polymerization of unsaturated esters with unsaturated polymerizable monomers containing no free COOH groups, wherein an olefinically unsaturated diester containing OH groups is used as the unsaturated ester, said diester being obtained by reacting olefinically unsaturated dicarboxylic acids or the anhydrides thereof with a polyhydric alcohol and a monoepoxide compound in one or more steps, characterized in that the copolymerization of the diesters with monomers which contain no free COOH groups is carried out in the presence of copolymerizable monomers containing free COOH groups, and the use of the copolymers as hardenable binders for lacquers and/or coating compositions.
