    Abstract: The de-icing and anti-icing composition described, which is based on glycols and water, contains as thickener water-soluble crosslinked copolymers of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid as principal monomer and an ester or amide of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid having a long alkyl radical in the ester group and one or two long alkyl radicals in the amide group as secondary monomer. These copolymers are used to produce type II de-icing and anti-icing compositions for aircraft, which have a long holdover time and at the same time, owing to the pronounced pseudoplasticity of the copolymer, outstanding flow-off characteristics.

    Abstract: The composition described includes as thickener water- soluble crosslinked acrylic homopolymers having a mean molecular weight of from 750,000 to 1,250,000 and a viscosity, in the form of a 0.5% strength by weight aqueous solution with a pH of 7.0 and a temperature of 20.degree.C, of from 1000 to 13,000 mPa-s, measured with a Brookfield viscometer at 20 rpm, and in addition thereto from 0.02 to 1.5% by weight of at least one nonionic surfactant formed from an alcohol having 6 to 22 carbon atoms which is reacted with from 1 to 10 molecules of a low molecular mass alkylene oxide, and from 0.03 to 1% by weight of at least one water-soluble salt compound of an inorganic acid or a carboxylic acid or a mixture thereof. The deicing liquid described is notable for a long holdover time and good flowoff behavior.

    Abstract: According to the method described, the used aircraft deicing fluid is first subjected to conventional filtration for separating off undissolved substances and then to an ultrafiltration for separating off, in particular, polymeric thickeners. The ultrafiltration permeate is further treated with ionic exchangers and water is then separated off by distillation from the eluate obtained essentially comprising glycol and water and thus the glycol level is brought to the desired value. A new aircraft deicing composition can be prepared with the glycol/water solution thus obtained by adding the additional necessary components to the glycol/water solution.
