The reaction products I, among which those wherein at least one of both radicals X and Y is CF3 are novel compounds, are solvents for highly fluorinated compounds and intermediates in various application fields.

(I) include CF3-CHF-O-CHF-CF3. In an example, this is prepd. from trifluoroacetaldehyde and Et2N-SF3 in dry toluene.
