Abstract:
Single cell protein for food and feed was manufd. by aerobic cultivation of MeOH-utilizing bacterium, Methylomons clara(ATTC 31226). Thus, Methylomons clara was cultured n nutrient medium contg. MeOH, ammonium salts and mineral salts at pH 6.0-7.2 and 35≦̸C-39≦̸C for 22 hrs. with aeration and stirring. After fermn. the medium was cooled, adjusted to pH 4.0 with H2SO4 and centrifuged to give biomass. The biomass contained crude protein 85, nucleic acid 8-12, ash 506 and crude lipid 6-8%.

Abstract:
In a process for preparing Moenomycin by the aerobic fermentation of Moenomycin-forming Streptomyces in the presence of fats, the improvement wherein a surfactant of the formula RO-(CH2CH2O-)nH is present in the fermentation medium, R being saturated or monounsaturated hydrocarbon having 8 to 18 carbon atoms and, in each case, optionally being substituted by hydroxy, and n is an integer from 18 to 30.
