Abstract:
Spall suppressing ballistic resistant vehicular armor. More particularly, a lightweight spall suppressing ballistic resistant vehicular armor system incorporating both a spall resistant liner and a blast mitigating material. The blast mitigating material is positioned contiguous to a vehicle hull to thereby space the spall resistant liner from the vehicle hull, thereby improving the performance of the liner and the overall system.
Abstract:
Highly uniform woven fibrous structures formed from fibrous tapes, wherein the tapes constitute the warp and weft tapes of a woven fabric. The individual fibrous tapes may be woven or non-woven, and may be formed as narrow tapes or may be cut from a wider fabric web.

Abstract:
Viscoelastic, lightweight composite armor that is resistant to backface deformation, and to a method for evaluating the effectiveness of composite armor in resisting backface deformation. The index of retraction of a composite is determined by evaluating the degree of composite retraction at the site of impact of projectile after movement of the projectile is stopped. The degree of retraction indicates the ability of the composite to resist backface deformation.

Abstract:
Abstract:
A polyethylene multi-filament yarn is provided, which comprises a polyethylene having an intrinsic viscosity in decalin at 135°C of from 5 dl/g to 35 dl/g, fewer than two methyl groups per thousand carbon atoms, and less than 2 wt. % of other constituents. The yarn has a tenacity of at least 17 g/d as measured by ASTM D2256-02. The filaments of the yarn have a peak value of the ordered-sequence length distribution function, F(L), as determined at 23°C from the low frequency Raman band associated with the longitudinal acoustic mode (LAM-1), at a straight chain segment length L of at least 40 nanometers.
