    Abstract: In a solar cell comprising first and second members opposite to each other and an amorphous silicon lamina (13) interposed between the first and the second members, a predetermined one of the first and the second members comprises a transparent conductive layer (25, 25') having an average particle size between 300 and 900 angstroms. The transparent conductive layer is laid between the amorphous silicon lamina and a transparent insulator substrate (11) directed towards light when the predetermined member is used as the first member while the transparent conductive layer is overlaid on the amorphous silicon layer to be directed towards light when the predetermined member is used as the second member. The transparent conductive layer may comprise indium oxide, tin oxide, indium tin oxide, or the like.

    Abstract: A magnetic recording medium which includes an underlying layer formed on a glass substrate having a precision-polished surface, a magnetic layer formed on the underlying layer, a protective layer formed on the magnetic layer through another layer or directly not therethrough, and a lubricant layer formed on the protective layer. The underlying layer is made up of a first underlying layer made of Al and second and third underlying layers made of Cr and formed on the first underlying layer, the first underlying layer is set to have a thickness of 10-100 angstroms and the second underlying layer is set to have a thickness corresponding to 2-10 times the thickness of the first underlying layer.

    Abstract: A method of manufacturing a magnetic recording medium by using an in-line sputtering apparatus to successively form, on a substrate, at least one or more underlying layer 2, and a magnetic CoPt-based film 3, a nonmagnetic film 4, and a magnetic CoPt-based film 5. An underlying film 2c and/or the nonmagnetic film 4, which are contacted with the magnetic film, are deposited in low sputtering power between 100 and 1000 watts to improve magnetic properties of the magnetic recording medium. Low power sputtering is also effective to improve a distribution of difference of the crystal lattice distances between the nonmagnetic intermediate film 4 and the magnetic film 3 and between the underlying layer 2 and the magnetic film 3.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abrasion tester for an eyeglass lens that is superior in repeatability with the variations reduced among testing organizations.
    SOLUTION: This abrasion tester is equipped with a tray 11 used for housing sand therein and is provided with a hole 17 in its bottom part 16, in order to bring the sand into contact with the eyeglass lens 1; a lens holder 12 for holding the eyeglass lens at the bottom part of the tray so that a part thereof fits into the hole so as to move the eyeglass lens integrally with the tray; and a substrate 22 for mounting the tray thereon. This abrasion tester comprises a rocking device 13 for linearly reciprocating the tray 11 in a horizontal direction via the substrate. At least one among the position, velocity, and acceleration of the substrate with respect to time in the rocking device can be electrically controlled by using a controller.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic recording device which is highly practical and has high coercive force by specifying the specific resistance of a conductive thin film on a nonconductive nonmagnetic substrate having high durable temp. to a specified value or lower. SOLUTION: This magnetic recording medium 1 is produced by successively depositing an ITO conductive thin film 3, roughness controlling layer 4, base layer 5, magnetic layer 6, protective layer 7 and lubricating layer 8 on a quartz glass substrate 2. The quartz glass substrate 2 endures high temp. as >=400 deg.C. This is because the heat treatment to obtain a conductive thin film 3 having low resistivity is usually performed at >=400 deg.C and the substrate is required to have heat resistance against that temp. Also the heat resistance of the substrate 2 is important considering the heat treatment carried out to improve magnetic characteristics of the magnetic layer.
