    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a procedure capable of minimizing time during which a terminal for an electronic payment system is unavailable. SOLUTION: This method is related to a procedure for processing data, especially a procedure for processing transaction data in an electronic payment system including at least one payment terminal, one collection device and one transaction system. In the procedure, a data record having header data is generated (1), a payment transaction is executed at least by one payment terminal (2) information related to the payment transaction is stored in the data record (3), a flag indicating a shadow data record is annexed to the data record (6), and an additional data record having additional header data is generated (7) before the start of a succeeding payment transaction (8).

    Abstract: A device according to the invention for communication between an application (10) and a chip card (20) has at least one application data dictionary (30) for holding information on application-specific application data, and at least one chip card dialogue module (40) or 'agent' for generating, with the aid of the application data dictionary (30), commands for an interface with the chip card (20). The chip card dialogue module (40) contains card-specific data pertaining to the chip card (20). From the application (10) a request (100) for communication with the chip card (20) is submitted to the chip card dialogue module (40) which is specifically adapted to the chip card (20). At that request (100), the chip card dialogue module (40) generates at least one command (110) which is necessary for communication with the chip card (20). The chip card dialogue module (40) gives access to relevant application-specific information (30) stored in the application data dictionary (30).

Upon the request (100), the chip card dialog module (40) generates at least one command (110), which is required for communication with the chip card (20). With the at least two security modules (7,8) applications which comprise the use of a terminal (1) are performable. The terminal operating system may determine which module is to be used for a particular application and each module may be protected by a password. Where the terminal is used for electronic value exchange a function may be included to provide a credit limit.
