Abstract:
Methods and arrangements of text entry are discussed. Embodiments include transformations, code, state machines or other logic to select segments of text from text files based upon the number of words in phrases of the text files, upon the number of letters in words of the text files, or upon other patterns of the text in the text files. The text files may include web sites and news indexes. Embodiments may also involve indexing the selected segments of text, matching text currently being entered by the user (current text) into an application to a portion of a segment of the indexed text, and entering a remaining portion of the segment of the indexed text into the application based upon the matching. In some embodiments, the matching may be based upon an attribute of text such as a time period, a source, or a recipient.
Abstract:
Provided is an apparatus and method for demonstrating the efficiency and effectiveness of a customer's information technology (IT) system and applications operating in a shared IT, or electronic business on-demand, environment. A test suite mimics hypothetical settings in an ondemand services environment (129) and then determines how the settings affect the allocation of resources in the on-demand services environment (129). The calculated allocation of resources is then compared to one or more service level agreements (SLAs) in order to determine compliance with a particular SLA.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of conducting a handwritten character recognition based on a parameter calculated from the stroke of a handwritten character by collecting the handwritten character and to provide a computer program and a data processing system thereof. SOLUTION: A method of conducting the handwritten character recognition by the analysis of the starting point and the ending point of the stroke includes a step of identifying a stroke starting event and a stroke ending event, and a step of calculating the stroke parameter from the coordinates of the stroke starting event and the stroke ending event. One or a plurality of candidate characters are identified based on the stroke parameter. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation modification program for modification of functions executed by a user input device in conjugation with a drop down menu program. SOLUTION: The drop down menu program provides for elimination of some manual steps required by a user when employing the user input device. The operation modification program provides for modification of pointer device functions to eliminate additional manual steps that are required by a user with the drop down menu program. Five modifications are provided; pointer-over, pointer-over-with-highlighting, pointer-over-with-clicking, pointer-over-with-highlighting/clicking, and pointer-movement. The five modifications provide for auto-detection, auto-determination, auto-execution for elimination. Each of the five modifications can be applied in the area of activation, selection, scrolling, and sorting. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method, a system and a program for scheduling calendar entries from the inside of the context of an instant messaging interface. SOLUTION: In this scheduling method, an instant messaging client receives input from a user to schedule an instant messaging chat session with one or more invitees, wherein the one or more invitees are selected from a list of contacts. A scheduling interface provided by the instant messaging client allows the user to define properties for the instant messaging chat session. Responsive to receiving user input defining the instant messaging chat session, an entry is created in the user's calendar system to form a scheduled instant messaging chat session. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of conducting a handwritten character recognition by scaling a handwritten character input and to provide a computer program and a data processing system thereof. SOLUTION: A method for scaling the handwritten character input for the handwritten character recognition includes a step of deriving a stroke parameter from a handwritten character stroke, and a step of partitioning the input area in which the handwritten character stroke is supplied. The stroke parameter is scaled according to the input area. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for displaying real-time service level performance, breach, and guaranteed uniformity with automatic alerts and proactive rebating for a utility computing environment. SOLUTION: Service level agreement parameters based on a service level agreement between a customer and a service provider are used to identify discrepancies in a promised service level for the utility computing environment. A real-time view of a current service level and the promised service level for the customer is displayed. When discrepancy between the promised service level and the current service level occurs, a rebate is generated for the customer. Alerts identifying the discrepancy and its root cause are provided to the customer and the service provider for the discrepancy. Alerts may also be provided prior to the occurrence of the discrepancy so that action may be performed to eliminate potential discrepancy. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
Abstract:
Methods, systems, and products are disclosed for multi-source, multi-destination data transfers that include identifying a plurality of destination points having destination contexts in one or more destination objects; selecting source content for transfer; displaying destination contexts for the destination points; and directing source content to at least one destination point in dependence upon the displayed destination contexts. In typical embodiments, identifying destination points includes recording each identified destination point and storing in association with each recorded destination point a copy of a destination context for each recorded destination point.
