Abstract:
In a high performance print magnet, magnet yokes are independently resiliently mounted on a common support, the yoke is tapered at the pole face to concentrate the flux attracting the armature, and the push rod used to actuate a pivoted print hammer is spring biased to hold the magnet armature against a back stop and prevent the push rod from following the print hammer after the magnet armature seals.
Abstract:
In a printer, character-bearing type elements moving along a print line selectively impact a ribbon against a document backed by a platen to print on the document. The platen is automatically retracted at the end of each print cycle to provide adequate clearance for advancing the document for the next line of printing, whereupon it is advanced so as to provide an optimum space relation with the type elements for printing the next line.
Abstract:
A printer has a plurality of print hammers which impact pivotaltype levers carried by type carriers moving along a track adjacent the print line. Cam surfaces on the body of the carrier cooperate with portions of the print hammer to prevent interference between the print hammer and an adjacent type lever when printing.
Abstract:
A type carrier comprises a flexible, toothed timing belt having U-shaped type carrier members which are attached to the belt by pins through the legs of each member on either side of a belt tooth and which have flexible supports secured thereto each with a type character at the free end.

POSITION TRACKING EMITTER FOR A PRINTER An emitter marking pattern is provided on a lead screw in parallel with the thread of the lead screw. A carriage driven along by the lead screw contains a transducer for sensing the emitter marking pattern on the lead screw to produce electrical output signal pulses indicative of incremental displacement of the carriage. A printhead can be mounted on the carriage and the electrical output signal pulses from the transducer used to control printing operations. The emitter marking pattern can be designed to provide control signals for other purposes, for example for controlling start-up, running, deceleration and reversal of a motor driving the lead screw.
Abstract:
PRINT HEAD ACTUATOR Apparatus for moving a print head of a serial matrix printer into or out of contact with a recording medium in which the required motion is achieved during translation of the print head along the print line by a cam and follower and in which the contact pressure of the print head is resiliently maintained.
Abstract:
MULTI-FUNCTION DOCUMENT TRANSPORT SYSTEM FOR PRINTERS The document transport system includes improved document drive and guide means to permit the optional feeding of a continuous web document or the feeding of individual cut form documents through the printer. A continuous web document can be fed through the printer in two feeding modes and cut form documents can also be fed through the printer in two feeding modes. Document guide means is provided for feeding documents inwardly from the top or front of the printer and both pin wheel and friction type drive means are provided.
