Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a color liquid crystal display which secures sufficient luminance, while realizing high NTSC ratio. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display is provided with a cold cathode fluorescent tube as a light source and a liquid crystal display panel, which controls transmission of light from the cold cathode fluorescent tube to display an image. The liquid crystal display panel has a color filter substrate, having red, green, and blue color filter layers, a TFT array substrate, and a liquid crystal material, which is sealed between the TFT array substrate and the color filter substrate. The cold cathode fluorescent tube is a three-wavelength fluorescent tube, and Zn2 SiO4 :Mn is used as its green phosphor. The cold cathode fluorescent tube and the color filter layers are optimized so that the color reproducing area of light emitted from the cold cathode fluorescent tube through the color filter layers have >=85% for NTSC ratio.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve display characteristics and more particularly to prevent the occurrence of blue bright points when a liquid crystal module is used as an optical modulating means (light valve) for the light emitted from a strong light source in OHP applications, etc. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal module is provided with shielding means for shielding the region of the wavelengths liable to be absorbed and transmitted through the protective layers formed on TFTs among the wavelengths constituting the light arriving at the routes of the light arriving at the protective layers formed on the TFTs in these optical paths. The protective layers on the TFTs typically consist of amorphous silicon layers. In such a case, the characteristic to shut off the light having a region of 380 to 500nm is requested as the shielding means. The more preferable shielding means are obtd. by forming color filters exclusive blue right above the TFTs at least part of which relates with blue cells.

Abstract: Blue bright spots occurring when using overhead projectors with liquid crystal modules (LCDs) are prevented by providing intercepting filter in the liquid crystal module for modifying light reaching the thin film transistors of the LCDs in the portion of the spectrum absorbed by and passing through the protection layer formed on the TFT. In the case where protection layer on the TFT is formed of an amorphous silicon layer, the intercepting filter has the characteristic of modifying the light having wavelengths of 380 nm to 500 nm. The intercepting filter being a color filter of other than blue is formed just above the TFT at least part of which is related to a cell of blue.

Abstract: A colour filter for a liquid crystal display has a red coloured layer having two red pigments. The first red pigment, preferably C.I. Pigment Red #224, has a 40% transmittance wavelength at the short wave end of a transmitted spectrum in the range of 550 to 600nm (figure 1). The second red pigment, preferably C.I. Pigment Red #177, has a 40% transmittance wavelength at the short wave end of a transmitted spectrum within 40nm of that of the first red pigment (figure 1). The transmittance of the red layer in a wavelength region of 450 to 500nm is substantially 0% (figure 3). Also provided is a photo polymeric composition having the two red pigments, at least one unsaturated photo polymeric compound with at least two terminal ethylene groups, a photopolymerization initiator, which is activated by illumination of an active electromagnetic wave, and an organic high-molecular polymer having a water soluble atomic group in part of a side chain.
