Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device, a system, and a method for distributing a configuration parameter for a storage device from one or more data stores of configuration parameters. SOLUTION: The device comprises one or more storage devices which are configured so as to store data, a first DHCP server which is configured so as to process a DHCP message, and redirect the communication regarding a configuration parameter for the storage devices to a second DHCP server, and a configuration data store which is configured so as to store the configuration parameter for the storage devices. The second DHCP server may be configured so as to process the DHCP message and retrieve the configuration parameter for the storage devices from the configuration data store. In some embodiments, each storage initiator communicates with the DHCP server, receives the configuration parameter like an iSCSI parameter, and provides the configuration parameter to one or more storage devices. Abstract:
In a switching system (fig. 1) comprising server card â bladesâ (104, fig. 1 & 202, fig. 6), a midplane 123 is connected to switch modules 4201-3 on different server cards thus providing a fabric interconnect for a switch fabric under the operation of a management controller (1604, fig. 16) which updates and monitors the switch modules, and informs others when one fails. Switch modules may be replaced (â hot swappedâ ) without restarting the system or fabric.
Abstract:
Techniques are disclosed for managing a switch fabric. In one embodiment, a server system is provided that includes a midplane, one or more server cards, switch modules and a management controller. The midplane may include a fabric interconnect for a switch fabric. The one or more server cards and the switch modules may be operatively connected to the midplane. The switch modules may be configured to switch network traffic for the one or more server cards. The management controller may be configured to manage the switch modules via the fabric interconnect.
Abstract:
An adapter or add-in card for use in a peripheral component interconnect (PCI) computer includes a universal module which couples the card to the PCI bus. The module includes a set of selectively programmable configuration registers which are loaded by a microprocessor on the adapter. A circuit arrangement on the module issues a command which inhibits the PCI processor from accessing the configuration registers until fully loaded. Another circuit arrangement presents the Expansion ROM base address register as a 'read/write' register or a read only register with all bits set to logical "0 " to the PCI computer. If the Expansion ROM base address register is presented as a read only register with all bits set to "0 ", the PCI computer concludes that no Expansion ROM exists on the add-in card, and its contents are not shadowed into the memory of the PCI computer. This disabling of the Expansion ROM causes memory space to be conserved in the computer. If the Expansion ROM is presented as a read/write register with non-zero values, the PCI computer concludes that an Expansion ROM exists and "shadows" its contents into the memory of the PCI computer.
