Abstract: A 3-stage switching system is provided for generating, i.e. finding, reserving and setting, path from one switch entrance port (1) to at least one switch exit port (transmit side) for asynchronously received and buffered data cells. While an Nth cell is being transferred, control means (36) generate a control word including the switch exit port address for cell (N+1)th to be subsequently transferred. Said control word is used to find and reserve a path through the switch on a stage-by-stage basis, and then set said path, if any, using a fed back acknowledgement. The (N+1)th cell path generation is performed during cell N transfer, on a cycle stealing basis.

Abstract: METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR FAST DETERMINATION OF INITIAL TRANSVERSAL EQUALIZER COEFFICIENT VALUES A method for determining the initial values of the coefficients of a transversal equalizer for a synchronous data transmission system, wherein a training sequence is transmitted to allow the equalizer coefficients to be adjusted to optimum initial values. According to the method, a sequence (vi) of L elements vi, having a periodic autocorrelation function, only the first coefficient of which is not zero, is derived from a periodic binary pseudo-random sequence (ui) of L binary elements ui having a periodic autocorrelation function, the first coefficient of which is equal to L and each of the other coefficients are equal to -1. Then, the sequence (vi) is transmitted through the transmission channel and the initial values of the equalizer coefficients are derived from the received sequence. In a preferred embodiment of the invention the initial values of the equalizer coefficients are derived from the received sequence through a direct method which involves the calculation of the autocorrelation matrix of samples of the transmission channel impulse responses.

Abstract: 1298275 Automatic exchange equipment INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 17 March 1970 [19 March 1969] 12653/70 Heading H4K In a switching matrix having a plurality of crosspoint switches, for connecting any first wire to any second wire, not all the switches associated with any one first wire are operable by the same control means. As shown in Fig. 1 which uses PNPN rectifiers to make the crosspoint connections, the operating wire G1 controls rectifiers K11 K12, K23, K24 so that in the event of a failure on this operating wire, connection can still be made from the row line E1 to a column line through rectifiers K13, K14 controlled through operating wire G2. In the modification shown in Figure 3 the row wire E1 forms crosspoints both in the first and second row positions at K11, K12 and K23, K24 respectively and this construction can be used in crossbar switches to avoid distorting the operating rods. In a further modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the operating wires are disposed diagonally across the matrix. (For Figures see next column.)
