Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately set a device controller having two operation modes corresponding to the installation state of a device driver.
SOLUTION: The device controller is operated in the two operation modes of an old operation mode in which it is operated by an old device driver and a new operation mode in which it is operated by a new device driver. For an OS, there is the case that the old device driver is introduced but the new device driver is not introduced. A BIOS sets the device controller to the old operation mode and activates a computer. In the operation environment of the OS, the presence/absence of the new device driver is inspected. When the new device driver is detected, control is shifted to the BIOS and the device controller is set to a new operation mode.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inspect the actuation of a communication interface having simple structure and being used for a computer, etc. SOLUTION: When a wrap tool 40 is connected with an SCSI device 10, a signal (TEMPWR) from an output device 38 to recognize the wrap tool 40 is outputted to SCSI connectors 22, 24 by a Y-shaped cable 14, returned back at the wrap tool 40 and returned to an SCSI controller 12 as a signal (PSCSIWRAP) through registers 28, 30. Since one end of a register 26 the other end of which is grounded is connected with the input side of the SCSI controller 12, the registers 28, 30 are connected in parallel and the signal (PSCSIWRAP) is determined by the registers 26, 28, 30. When a single wrap tool is connected, a potential is determined by the registers, 26, 28 or 30 and eliminated.

SOLUTION: The power management device 10 comprises an event detection part 12 which detects an event in the system, an activity detection part 14 which decides whether the system is in an idle or active state by checking activities in the system, and a clock control part 14 which performs CPU clock control. The clock control part 16 stops the CPU throttling when the system is in the idle state and performs the throttling only when the system is in a busy state, so that no unnecessary CPU throttling is performed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for performing the read/write test of a magnetic tape recorder in a short time. SOLUTION: Each data band of the magnetic tape includes plural laps as data tracks. In the read/write test, test lengths having the specified lengths for all of the laps are set, and a test pattern is written into the part of the test length, and further, the same pattern is read out to verify the existence of the trouble to the device or the tape. When the test is applied to all of the laps, the time is required for changing over a magnetic head between respective laps, and this time depends on the sequence of the changeover. This device is arranged to select the sequence to changeover the lap by the magnetic head for the read-out or write-in, i.e., the lap sequence, as the one different from the lap sequence in the actual working state. The lap sequence in the actual working state is selected by the primary factor such as the writing performance of the tape, etc., and not suited for the read/write test.
