    Abstract: A transversal type of digital filter is disclosed which uses substantially less hardware than previously known types. Conventional multiplying devices are eliminated by use of a read only memory containing a table of squares and addressed both by weighted value samples of the input signal and by values of the input signal. The weighted values are accumulated and corrected by the use of the second squared values addressed by the value of the signal sample to generate a sample of a filtered output signal.

    Abstract: A redesigned digital filter is disclosed which uses fewer of the costly multiplier components than conventional digital filters. Samples of the input signals are processed alternately using a multiplier common to two successive samples and a correction term is generated using successive pairs of input samples. The generation of the correction term requires fewer than one-half of the multiplier circuits used in a conventional filter so that the overall circuit saves about one-fourth of the multipliers usually needed.

    Abstract: A multiphase modulated transmission can be obtained with three data sets X, Y, and Z such that data elements of the set Y+Z drive two phase channels and data elements from the set Y1+Z1, derived from the three sets X, Y, Z and selected according to a predetermined logical function, drive two other phase channels. By adjusting the weighting of algebraic adders terminating corresponding channel pairs, multiphases up to eight can be approximated.

    Abstract: An apparatus for computing the two-dimensional discrete Fourier transform (DFT) of an image comprised of NxN samples. The samples within each row are respectively multiplied by W-n1, n1=0, 1, . . . , N-1 and stored in a memory 17. A device 20 derives therefrom N polynomials of N terms by means of a polynomial transform. The terms of each of these polynomials are multiplied by Wn1 and a device 28 computes the one-dimensional DFT thereof, thereby providing the N2 terms of the transform of said image.

    Abstract: A self-adjustable equalizer for a phase modulation communication system in which the equalizer output signal s is sampled at the modulation rate and weighted by a factor proportional to envelope amplitude distortion dR/R, R being the envelope amplitude at given instants and the product sdR/R being the adjustment control signal. In the preferred embodiment the product of the sign of s and the sign of dR serves as the control or error signal. One implementation frequency translates the equalizer output signal and compares the amplitude of the translated signal with a reference at given instants to determine the sign of dR which is eventually multiplied by the sign of s.
