Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protective mechanism for a magnetic disk which enhances the resistance of the magnetic disk to impacts by retreating a magnetic head according to the state of a magnetic disk unit and which meticulously sets the conditions for retreat of the magnetic head, and is effective and highly practicable. SOLUTION: The protective mechanism is provided with a sensor 20 and sensor driver 31 which acquire information relating to a change in the environment for the magnetic disk unit 10, a shock manager 32 which analyzes the information acquired by the sensor driver 31 together with the history thereof and carries out impact prediction by judging the state in which the magnetic disk unit 10 is placed and an HDD filter driver 33 which controls the operation of the magnetic disk unit 10 including the retreat of the magnetic head on the basis of the result of the prediction by the shock manager. Further, the mechanism can also be provided with a diagnostic processing section for investigating whether the retreat of the magnetic head can be completed or not prior to the occurrence of the impact and for diagnosing whether there is a possibility of the occurrence of trouble in the magnetic disk or not. PURPOSE: To restore and wake up information required for task restart from a detachable external storage device in spite of whether a system to wake up is a hibernation executed system or not. CONSTITUTION: In the prescribed area of the external storage device, history information is stored for showing the hibernation is executed at the system to which the external storage device is mounted in the past. The wake-up system checks the history information and executes wake-up (step 1101). Besides, the external storage device stores control information containing system configuration information at the time point of task interruption. The wake-up system compares the stored system configuration information with its own configuration information (step 1102). When the configuration information is not coincident, the restore of information from the external storage device into a main memory is refused.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing system capable of utilizing effectively the other area not password-authenticated while protecting a specified area in a hard disk drive by password authentication. SOLUTION: This information processor is provided with an external storage device having an access-limited area allowing access when a password is authenticated correctly, and an access area accessible irrespective of the authentication of the password, the password is registered preliminarily in a registration server, an input of the password is requested to a user when accessing the access-limited area, a password acquisition program for acquiring the password from the registration server is read from an access non-limited area, when the password is not input, the password is acquired from the registration server by operating the password acquisition program, and the acquired password is authenticated in the external storage device to set the access-limited area to an accessible state. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method and a device which change the operation speed for a CPU in accordance with the residual quantity of unprocessed messages in a computer system including an operating system (OS), especially in a multitask operating system capable of simultaneously and parallelly processing plural jobs (tasks). SOLUTION: In this configuration, a computer including a processor capable of dynamically changing operation speeds includes (a) a program performing processing in a prescribed processing unit, (b) a means which calculates the time difference between preparation time in the prescribed processing unit and the present time (432) and (c) means (436, 450, etc)., which change the operation speed of the processor to be faster than the current one when the time difference is larger than a 1st value and change the operation speed of the processor to be slower than the current one when the time difference is smaller than a 2nd value.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To refer to a performance index, to control the operation speed of a processor and to reduce power consumption by referring to a user mode instruction number executed in prescribed time and changing the operation speed of the processor. SOLUTION: Clock signals inputted to a CPU 3 are controlled by a controller 11. The control of the clock signals is executed by changing the frequency of the clock signals and stopping the supply of the clock signals if the CPU 3 can comply with it. The controller 11 observes the operation of the CPU 3 and monitors input from a sensor 13. For the observation of the CPU 3, for instance, a cache error rate, the number of access to a non-cacheable memory, an I/O instruction ratio or the like, a total execution instruction number per unit time and the execution instruction number of a user mode are considered. An I/O instruction or the like is executed in a system mode and discriminated from the user mode. By using the information, the controller 11 controls the operation of a clock oscillator 9 and the CPU 3.

PURPOSE: To specify a logic drive suitable for preparing a hibernation file. CONSTITUTION: One logic drive, which can access an OS file system and is larger than a prescribed size, is selected and while using the OS file system, the file of a prescribed name is prepared for this logic file. Then, the preparation of this file is informed to a power management(PM) code (steps 605-608). Corresponding to whether the reading of the file of the prescribed name is confirmed from the PM code or not, it is judged whether the preparation of the hibernation file at this drive is suitable or not (step 609).

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base used for promptly disclosing and using operation contents on work conducted by an antecedent user in various pieces of work which are conducted by a plurality of users in a given group and can be made common. SOLUTION: In an information processor 18 for information registration, a capture means 19 captures graphics processing instructions; a database registration means 20 registers, on a database 13, information on a series of the graphics processing instructions associated with completed work out of the captured graphics processing instructions as work completion information. In an information processor 28 for information retrieval, an advancing-work detection means 30 detects the work in advance as advancing work on the basis of the captured graphics processing instructions, and an information acquisition means 31 searches the database on the basis of the graphics processing instructions associated with the advancing work about the work completion information on the advancing work to acquire the work completion information on the advancing work. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processor which prevents the protection function of a disk drive for the anticipated impacts from causing troubles in the predetermined processing, and also to provide a control method of the information processor, and a program and a recording medium thereof. SOLUTION: When the predetermined conditions are fulfilled after the magnetic disk drive 13 is made highly shockproof, a second prediction means 20 issues a second prediction that the anticipated impact is not imminent. When power switching is made impossible by the protection function of the magnetic disk drive 13, a condition relaxation means 28 relaxes the conditions for issuing the second prediction in the second prediction means, and prompts the disk drive 13 to return to the state allowing to read/write the data. The information processor 10 has a protection function to switch the drive 13 to the highly shockproof state unable to read/write the data when an impact to the magnetic disk drive 13 is anticipated, and a power switching function to properly switch the drive 13 to the power saving mode. In the power switching function, disk accessing is requested, and the power switching is often suspended for a long time if an impact is predicted to be imminent to the disk drive 13. Such cases are prevented. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To modify a frequency of a video clock, without affecting the quality of display. SOLUTION: A method to decrease the video clock frequency includes steps of: detecting momentum for lowering the video clock frequency; lowering the video clock frequency within a range in which a circuit using the video clock, such as a PLL (Phase-Locked Loop) circuit can track the frequency fluctuation; and repeating the step for lowering the video clock frequency, until the video clock frequency modified with the step reaches a predefined frequency.
