Abstract: Neutralisation of the static electric charge built up on paper or plastics material forming leaves or ribbons is performed during electrophotographic copying etc. The charge built up is that caused by the movement of the material during its processing, causing the adhesion of the leaves to each other. The individual leaves are passed on insulating rollers, supported by an air film or by a series of wires through a spaced group of up to four air ionizing points. Each such point or station provides alternate negation of positive and negative charge build up. The stations are positioned such that during the polarity cycle the leaf section is appropriately treated.

Abstract: A continuously operating transfer reproduction apparatus includes a cyclic control unit which automatically effects alternate redevelopment and reimaging cycles when reproducing multiple copies of the same master. An electrophotographic plate travels in a closed loop past a moving optical system which images the plate with a light image of the master creating a latent electrostatic image on the plate. The latent image is developed at a developing station and transferred to a substrate at a transfer station as the plate travels therepast. Increased throughput speed is achieved by effecting a fixed number of redevelopment cycles while the moving optical system is resetting. Thus, the plate continues its travel past the resetting optical system to the developing station where the latent image is redeveloped and thence to the transfer station for transfer of the developed image to a second substrate. The plate is then cleaned and charged prior to being reimaged with the light image of the same master, and the process continues until the requisite number of copies have been reproduced. In one embodiment, multiple imaging areas, preferably an odd number thereof, are located on the plate facilitating rapid alternate imaging and redevelopment cycles.

Abstract: A document feed device is disclosed which utilizes intermittently operated endless drive belts to transport a document sheet from an entry guide to an exposure zone and from there to an exit hopper where the drive belts are tensioned over the trailing and leading edges of the work station to provide concentrated drive forces at those points and where the leading edge is slightly elevated from the plane of the work station to provide a region of force relief immediately after passing the leading edge. The document is moved into engagement with the drive belt by picker roll mechanism which controls initiation of feed and is accelerated away from the work station by an accelerator roll arrangement which drives the document at a speed faster than it is normally fed to make room for the next document. Alignment is accomplished by an alignment guide having fingers inter-digitated with the plurality of feed belts and providing a positive stop against which the document is lightly urged by the feed belts. The feed belt/work station surface arrangement is such as to provide an increasing urging force in the direction of feed.
