    Abstract: The invention relates to a voice processing system capable of varying the speed of output of digitised audio data stored therein. The digitised audio data is stored using blocks of LPC coefficients. Each block is sufficient to allow twenty milliseconds of speech to be generated therefrom. Periodically, or selectably, the utilisation of particular blocks is repeated resulting in a decrease in the speed of output of the speech synthesised therefrom. Alternatively, selectably blocks of LPC coefficients are omitted from use thereby producing a corresponding increase in speech output. Figure 5 is a flow-chart illustrating the invention.

    Abstract: A voice processing system 60 is connected via a digital trunk line 100 to a telephone switch 10, which is itself connected to a telephony network 30 by a digital trunk line 20. The digital trunk line between the switch and the network uses a first encoding law for representing the amplitude of the telephony signals, for example A-law encoding. However, applications running on the voice processing system are designed to operate on signals encoded in accordance with a different amplitude-encoding law, for example mu-law encoding. The voice processing system therefore includes in a telephone interface module 70 conversion means for converting incoming signals from the first encoding law to the second, and vice versa for outgoing signals.

The output of the voice response system ordinarily destined for display on a visual display unit of a local terminal is directed to the voice response system server. The voice response system server forwards the data to a voice response system client. The voice response system client generates data in a first format useable by said WWW client terminal from data in a second format received from said voice response system and generates data in said second format useable by said voice response system from data in said first format received from WWW client terminal, that is, the voice response system client dynamically generates HTML data from the data generated by the voice response system for transmission to and subsequent display at the WWW client terminal and visa versa.

    Abstract: A voice processing system comprises a computer workstation 80 running a voice system software and a telephony interface module 70 (connected with the network 30) which is attached via a trunk line 100 to a telephone switch 10. The computer system 80 and the telephony interface module 70 are connected by a standard data connection 230, such as a SCSI connection, over which voice data is exchanged. The SCSI interface is provided with a voice device driver capable of handling voice data by means of an appropriate set of commands. The interface 70 may be provided by the telephone switch (710), Fig. 7, (not shown). Other connections 230 could be ATM, FDDI or SSA.
