Abstract: A system is provided for the simultaneous transmission of pictures between a plurality of scanning stations and a plurality of corresponding receiver stations. The pictures to be transmitted comprise two levels of brightness such as, for example, a document having black print on a white background. Each of the scanning stations scans, in a pseudorandom fashion, its respective picture to provide an output signal indicative of the information on one of the levels of brightness, as for example, the black print information on the document. This information output signal is then multiplexed. A coder and multiplexer upon receiving an information signal, during a given time interval, from one of the scanning stations generate an address signal corresponding to the address of the station providing the information signal whereupon the address signal is transmitted to a decoder at the receiving end for decoding and providing an information signal to the appropriate receiver. When the coder and multiplexer simultaneously receive information signals from two scanning stations within a given time interval a priority control circuit selects one of the signals.

Abstract: METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DIGITALLY CONTROLLING THE FORMATION OF COLOUR IMAGES The colour images are generated by the point-wise overprinting of the individual printing colours by means of an ink jet printer. During printing of the second and subsequent colours the record medium is illuminated with white light and monitored by a two-dimensional opto-electronic device carrying colour filters. The spectral components measured are transformed into electrical signals used in each colour channel to control droplet generation, ink pressure and droplet deflection for correction in the direction of movement of the record medium, and to control the print head transport mechanism for correction in the direction orthogonal to the said direction. The ink jet printer for performing this method comprises at least three nozzles arranged in a common print head and a white-light source illuminating the image portions printed on the record medium. An opto-electronic scanner equipped with colour filters is mounted in scanning position. Its outputs are connected via a control unit to the control inputs of the droplet generators, of the ink supply and the deflection electronic of each individual colour channel as well as with the control inputs of the print head transport mechanism. Abstract: 1501660 Generating an improved image of a printed character INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 31 Oct 1975 [27 Jan 1975] 45273/75 Heading G4R An improved image of a printed character is produced by forming a first amplitude function representing the amplitude of the intensity of each elemental portion of the character, e.g. by scanning, by transforming the amplitude function using a Fourier transformation to produce a second function, by operating on the second function using a filter function, forming a second amplitude function from the filtered function using a Fourier transformation and converting the second amplitude function into an image of the character. Printed characters often contain defects such as comet tails (Fig. 1c) which have a periodic structure due to the structure of the inking ribbon. Such a character is scanned using equidistant rastering and the signal so produced is digitized. The function produced is Fourier transformed into a frequency function in which periodic features in the character due to the comet tails form local concentrations or singularities. The frequency function is multiplied by a filter function which removes these periodic features and is then transformed using a Fourier retransformation into an amplitude function. The transformations can be performed using programmed ditital computers.

Abstract: METHOD FOR ADAPTIVELY USING A PRINT RIBBON IN AN IMPACT PRINTER Rather than transporting the entire multicolour print ribbon in an impact printer back and forth until the reaching of a lower quality threshold requires replacement , this method provides for the use of only a subsection of limited length of the ribbon to be used until the lower quality threshold of any one of the colour tracks of this subsection is reached, and then advancing to a fresh subsection. The quality status of the current subsection may be monitored by counting the number of impacts on each individual colour track and comparing that number with a predetermined, stored value, or by shining light through the ribbon and optically comparing the passing light with a preset value. The method is flexible enough to permit manual advance of the ribbon to a fresh subsection in case a printing job requires highest possible quality.
