Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external storage device provided with a plurality of recording mediums and features of these recording mediums. SOLUTION: This external storage device 110 is provided with a semiconductor memory 200, a hard disk 210 having slower access speed than the semiconductor memory 200, a determination part 275 for determining whether write data can be stored in the semiconductor memory 200 or not when receiving write access for indicating writing of data for the external storage device 110, and an access processing part 277 which compresses write data and stores it in the semiconductor memory 200 when it is determined that the write data can be stored in the semiconductor memory 200 and stores the write data in the hard disk 210 when it is determined that the write data cannot be stored in the semiconductor memory 200. The external storage device 110 has a storage region having large storage capacity when compared with storage capacity of the semiconductor memory 200.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a clustering system with improved processing efficiency by eliminating, transfer of management data for fail over among the respective server machines. SOLUTION: The respective server machines 11 to 14 are provided with management data storage parts 60 to 61 to store the management data of processings to be executed in the server machines, batteries 70 to 73 to supply power to interface parts 50 to 53 to electrically and mechanically connect at least the management data storage parts 60 to 61 and the server machines with a communication line 110 when a fault occurs in the server machines, the interface parts 50 to 53 to receive power supply by a battery in the first server machine transfer the management data read from the management data storage parts 60 to 61 to a second server machine and continues service to a client based on the management data received by the second server machine when the fault occurs in a first server machine among the respective server machines.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To mount the PC card on a computer system and to enable the PC card to operate with its internal battery by itself by connecting the output of the internal battery or a power line to a nonvolatile storage device through a switching circuit according to which of reading operation and erasing/writing operation is carried out. SOLUTION: The PC card has an EEPROM 13 and the internal battery 14 with low voltage output which supports its reading operation, but does not support the erasing/rewriting operation. Further, a high voltage needed for the erasing/rewriting operation of the EEPROM 13 is received from the external computer system 500 through the power line. Further, the PC card includes an interface circuit 12 which can be driven with the output voltage of the internal battery 14 and the switching circuit 15 which switches the electricity feed source for the EEPROM 13 between the internal battery 14 and power line. When the PC card 100 is extracted from the computer system 500, an MPU 11 is driven by the internal battery 14 and allows only read access to the EEPROM 13.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve heat dissipation from servers when a plurality of thin servers are stacked in a rack. SOLUTION: In a structure in which the plurality of thin servers 101a, 101b, 101c and 101d are stacked in the rack, the individual servers are arranged while shifting each server by prescribed dimensions. An opening for heat radiation is formed at a part where each server is shifted. In such a configuration, heat radiation openings can be secured even though the thin servers are stacked in the rack, and heat dissipation from the inside of the servers can be improved.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external storage device which is provided with a plurality of recording media to exhibit their features and is excellent in their availabilities, and to provide an external storage device control method, a program, and a recording medium. SOLUTION: The external storage device 110 for storing data received from the outside for each data block is provided with a determination part 275 for determining whether or not it is possible to record the data blocks by using a specific data pattern, and an access processing part 277 for storing identification information for identifying the specific data pattern instead of storing the contents of the data blocks in the external storage device 110 when it is determined that it is possible to record the data blocks by using the specific data pattern by the determining part 275. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide portable terminal equipment with which unwanted operation input is not performed even when an input device is touched with the cheek of a user or the like during speaking. SOLUTION: A movable member is attached through an elastic member such as a leaf spring to the front face of a speaker on the portable terminal equipment and as long as no pushing is rendered to the member, the movable member is kept away from a main body as shown in (A). When the user presses his ear onto the movable member during speaking, the movable member is moved to the side of main body as shown in (B). A switch 202 detects the move of this movable member, namely, whether the user presses his ear onto the speaker or not. While the user presses his ear, input from a touch screen arranged between the speaker and microphone of portable terminal equipment is invalidated and a possible malfunction caused by pressing the cheek of the user or the like is prevented.
