    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To superimpose address specifying data information upon previously recorded track following servo information by shifting at least two transitions of a repeat transition couple in the parallel direction to transitions other than this repeat transition couple and including the address specifying information to be superimposed with the shift transitions. SOLUTION: A servo read head 26 is smaller than the width of a servo track 27, and a magnetic tape 20 is moved across a tape head assembly 24 in the horizontal direction. On the occurrence of this movement, a servo pattern of magnetic flux transition is detected by the servo read head 26, where an analog servo read signal is generated, and is changed into a position signal by a signal decoder 36 via a servo signal line 34 and is then sent to a servo control device 40 by a position signal line 38, from which a servo control signal is sent to a servo positioning mechanism of the head assembly 24 by a control line 42. Then, the head assembly 24 including the servo reading head 26 is moved vertically to a center line 30 of the servo track or the servo read head 26 is moved to the middle with respect to the center line 30.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To utilize information such as manufacturer, batch number, date of manufacture, serial number, etc., for fault analysis by storing information as a series of non-magnetic marks written by the laser to a disk surface, using such information as the encoded identification information and then reading such ID information. SOLUTION: The CSS area 113 is formed in the spiral shape with many bumps to have a landing zone of 3mm width. To encode the magnetic disk information in the CSS area 113, the laser bump in the CSS area 113 is encoded. The identification information is encoded in the CSS area 113 by changing little the interval of the laser bumps. Since bump interval is used for encoding, the apparatus can be simplified. Influence on friction is minimized by keeping constant the bump density within the CSS area 113. Since many bumps are provided in the cover area of the slider 120, laser bump enables encoding of the identifier without giving bad influence on the performance of texturing of area.
