Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting FIV(lentivirus) infection in cats and also to provide a polypeptide capable of being used for that purpose. SOLUTION: The detection of FIV infection in cats is conducted by detecting the specific antibody against FIV in cat blood serum or the like. First of all a peptide having antigenicity in FIV is prepared and then is brought into contact with cat blood serum or the like. Based on the formation of an immunocomplex due to the contact, the existence of an antibody and FIV infection can be detected. A glycoprotein in viral envelope protein (e.g. gp 40) or the like can be used as FIV peptide.
