Abstract: The invention relates to a splitter circuit (19) that combines, on the transmission side, the signals to be transmitted in different frequency bands (A-C), and that separates, on the reception side, the signals that are transmitted in different frequency bands. The splitter circuit (19) comprises a purely passively structured circuit section (13) for the rough separation of signals and impedances, and filters (3, 4; 9, 10) allocated to the individual transmitter and receiver sections for exactly filtering out the respective signal. Said separate filters (3, 4; 9, 10) are arranged in the transmission direction upstream of a corresponding four-wire/two-wire converter or in the reception direction downstream of a corresponding two-wire/four-wire converter so that the signal flow across these filters proceeds only in one sense and the filters can be embodied as purely active filters or digital filters. Especially, the filters (3, 4; 9, 10) can be designed for high-ohmic operation both in the transmission and the reception path, thereby reducing power consumption.

Abstract: The device has a communication unit (2) for communication with multiple subscriber lines (5) and another communication unit (3) for communication with a downstream network, which is to be connected with the communication device.
