Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption at every line and to supply same radio equipment to plural subscriber loop circuits. SOLUTION: In a subscriber unit 10 of a time division multiple access(TDMA) radio telephone system, circuit constitution elements 12, 13, 21, 29, 56, 57 and 58 which are not required for a communication signal processing in the time slots are reconstituted into a power consumption mosaic where power is down. For making the degree of a circuit which is to be installed for distributing a power consumption control signal to be minimum, the technology of clock frequency control 26 30 and 70 or power down commands 31, 67 and 68 is used. Controlled circuit constitution element power consumption is corrected without actually controlling a power circuit.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method of minimizing synchronization delay in a radiotelephone system between a modular subscriber cluster communicating with a common base station, the modular subscriber cluster receiving repetitive time slots from the base station and having a plurality of frequency-agile modems, the method comprising the steps of: synchronizing a selected one of the modems to a selected time slot of the received time slots; generating a frame sync signal from said selected modem; and distributing said frame sync signal to remaining ones of the plurality of modems.
Abstract:
A subscriber unit of a time division multiple access (TDMA) radiotelephone system is, from a power consumption standpoint, reconfigured in each time slot of a TDMA frame to a power consumption tessellation in which subscriber unit circuit components not needed for communication signal processing in that time slot are powered down, and other components are powered up. Some circuit components are powered down by switching their power supply circuits. In order to minimize the extent of circuitry that must be provided to distribute power consumption control signals, other techniques (which utilize circuitry provided for other purposes), such as clock frequency control or power down commands, also are utilized to modify controlled circuit component power consumption without actually controlling power supply circuits. Loop connection length between the subscriber unit and the subscriber s telephone set, or other terminal equipment, is limited to a length which is much less than the length of a radio link on which the subscriber unit operates. Programmable ring frequency logic controls the frequency of a ringing signal generator, and a high frequency ring control signal is switched on and off in the cadence of ringing operation. Also an expansion header is provided to enable serving plural subscriber loop circuits with the same radio equipment for reducing per line power consumption.
