Abstract: A method and a device (11) for monitoring a lift car door (5) in a lift system (1) is described. In this context, one or more distances is/are acquired on the basis of light (25) which is emitted in the direction of the lift car door (5) by a distance-measuring device (13) and reflected at the lift car door (5) as a function of a current closed state of the lift car door (5). Subsequently, information about the current closed state of the lift car door (5) is derived solely by comparing the acquired distance with a previously acquired reference distance, and a signal which represents the information is fed, for example, to a remotely arranged control centre (27). A monitoring device (11) which is configured for this purpose can be installed as a retrofit component which is capable of working autonomously in existing lift systems (1), does not need to receive any data from a controller of the lift car door (5) or the lift system (1) and only requires relatively simple data processing means which only need to carry out a comparison of detected distance values with reference values.

Abstract: A method and an elevator controller (31) for detecting a malfunction such as elevator blockage in an observed elevator (3) is proposed. The method comprises: acquiring first data during an application phase, the first data correlating with at least one condition in the observed elevator (3); acquiring further data during the application phase, the further data correlating with the at least one condition in other elevators (5); determining a current relative behaviour of the observed elevator during the application phase based on a comparison of the first data with the further data; and detecting the malfunction in the observed elevator (3) based on an analysis of the current relative behaviour. Preferably, an information about a normal relative behaviour of the observed elevator (3) as learned in a machine learning procedure during a preceding learning phase may be taken into account upon analysing the current relative behaviour of the observed elevator (3). The proposed method may enable automatically detecting malfunctions in an elevator while reducing a probability of false alarms.

The lift passenger having the mobile communication terminal (3) leaves the lift cab (5), whereupon the stored data are transmitted from the mobile communication terminal (3) to the monitoring unit (13), which is remote from the lift system, by means of a public mobile radio network.
