Abstract: What is provided herein is a method for preparing a product which comprises discrete microdroplets of an oil in water stabilized by in situ polymerization of a water-soluble vinyl monomer. The method comprises dispersing the oil in water, option- ally with a surfactant, adding the water-soluble vinyl monomer, preferably vinylpyrrolidone, optionally with a comonomer, and polymerizing the monomer or comonomers in situ such that the oil is stabiliz ed in the resulting polymer solution as discrete mic- rodroplets. The product is used in conditioning hair care compositions and hair and skin care compositions, including those con- taining a water-soluble acryl comonomer.
