Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a shampoo composition having both sufficiently conditioning effects and style retaining effects. CONSTITUTION:(a) A cationic/ampholytic polymer comprising repeating units of formula I to formula III (R and R are H or CH3; R , R and R are 1-4C alkylene; R is 1-4C alkyl, benzyl, CH2CH2OH, 2,3-epoxypropyl, 2-hydroxypropyl or group of formula IV; A and A are O or NH; X is halogen or alkyl sulfate residue; (n) is 1-9 integer) in ratio of 5-40mol% unit I, 40-90mol% unit II and 5-40mol% unit III and (b) a polyoxyalkylene-chitin or polyoxyalkylene-chitosan of formula V ((a) is number exceeding 1; R to R are H or group wherein 0-5 oxyethylene chains, 0-5 oxypropylene chains and 0-5 oxybutylene chains are bonded in an arbitrary order and the total number of the chains bonded is >=1) are blended as essential components in a ratio of preferably 0.05-5wt.% calculated as purity of the component (a) and 0.01-10wt.% component (b) to give the shampoo component having the above-mentioned effects.
