Abstract: Barium sulfate having a specific crystal structure and optical characteristics is disclosed. The crystals have a plate-like structure of which the aspect ratio is 5-100 and the ratio of the square of the circumference of the plate and the area of the orthogonal projection plane is 20:1-150:1. In a preferred embodiment, a thin film of 25 mu m thickness with 20% by weight of the barium sulfate powder concentration has a scattering transmittance of 70% or greater and a total transmittance of 85% or greater. The cosmetic compositions to which the barium sulfate is incorporated exhibits excellent extendibility and adhesion to the skin and can effectively hide the spots or freckles on the skin. The cosmetic composition satisfies both the fine naked skin feeling and the skin covering effect, which have never been satisfied by conventional cosmetic compositions.

CONSTITUTION:The subject solid powder cosmetic is composed of 1 to 30wt.% of a compound of the formula (one of R1 through R3 is a residue of saturated 11-17C straight-chain fatty acid; another, saturated 10-18C branched-chain fatty acid and the balance, H), 70 to 99wt.%, preferably 80 to 95wt.% of a powder such as talc, titanium dioxide, mica, Blue No.404, magnesium stearate, or nylon, as major components, additionally, oil, surfactant, humectant, ultraviolet absorber, chelating agent, pH-adjuster, disinfectant, flavors and so on. the cosmetic is prepared, for example, by mixing the oil phase containing the compound with the powder component, grinding them and filling a container with the product.

The particle diameter of the spherical powder is preferably 1-100mum, especially 5-20mum and the amount of the ultraviolet absorber is 0.1-1 pt.wt. per 1 pt.wt. of the spherical powder.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain cosmetic powder which has excellent water- and oil- repellency, does not cause a dissolution of cosmetic makeup and gives a comfortable feeling to a user by mixing the plate-like powder and microgranular powder of a specific granular group and treating their surface using a specific surface treatment agent. CONSTITUTION:The plate-like powder with an average cubic cumulative diameter of 1 to 50mum of mica or sericite and the microgranular powder with an average cubic cumulative diameter of 0.001 to 1mum of titanium oxide or zinc oxide are mixed together, and the compound powder thus obtained is subjected to a surface treatment using phosphoric ester as shown in formula [R (CnH2nO)m]yPO(OM)3-y (R is a 6 to 21C linear or branched chain perfluoroalkyl group or perfluorallkyloxy group; M is H , alkali metal atom, n=1 to 4, m=1 to 10, y=1 to 3). The dosage of this phosphoric ester is 0.01 to 30wt.% for the compound powder.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a powder cosmetic giving excellent transparent and bare- skin feeling, having excellent applicability and giving a finely finished skin by compounding a plate inorganic powder having a specific optical property with spherical powder having a volume cumulative average diameter, falling within a specific range. CONSTITUTION:The objective cosmetic can be produced by compounding (A) a plate inorganic powder having a refractive index of 1.60-1.80, a scattering transmittance of >=70% and a total transmittance of >=85% in the form of a thin film having a thickness of 25mum and a powder concentration of 20wt.% (e.g. aluminum oxide or barium sulfate having plate structure) and (B) a spherical powder having an average particle diameter of 0.1-2mum (e.g. organic spherical powder of polyester or polyethylene). The cosmetic has excellent transparent feeling and bare-skin feeling and exhibits high covering power to color shading such as spots and pimples by the new optical effect of the compounded inorganic powder (i.e., sharpness-suppressing effect) and excellent spreadability and applicability caused by the use of the spherical polymer.
