    Abstract: To provide an aqueous fabric softener composition, which is excellent in softening performance, elasticity and storage stability, and a quaternary ammonium salt which is useful as a softening base of this composition and nondetrimental to the natural environment because of its excellent biodegradability, and a process for the preparation of this salt. The aqueous fabric softener composition of the present invention comprises from 3 to 40% by weight of a quaternary ammonium salt represented by the following formula (I), a quaternary ammonium salt represented by the following formula (II) or a mixture thereof, and water: wherein R and R represent each a C1-4 alkyl group, etc.; R and R represent each a C7-35 alkyl group, etc.; and X represents an anion group; and wherein R and R represent each a C1-4 group, etc.; R and R represent each a C1-5 alkylene group, etc.; R and R represent each a C8-36 alkyl group, etc.; Q represents a C2-6 alkylene group; n is from 0 to 10; and X represents an anion group.

    Abstract: [PROBLEMS] To provide a detergent granule having a reduced paste-forming property and a low thermogenic property, a process for producing the detergent granule, and a high bulk density detergent composition comprising the detergent granule. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] A detergent granule comprising a linear sodium alkylbenzenesulfonate (LAS-Na), a Glauver salt which cannot be detected by X-ray diffractometry and a Glauver salt which can be detected by X-ray diffractometry, these components satisfying the following relationships: [the Glauver salt which cannot be detected by X-ray diffractometry]/[LAS-Na] = 0.1 to 1.0 by mole and [the Glauver salt which can be detected by X-ray diffractometry]/[a chemically quantified Glauver salt] = 0.5 to 0.9 by mole; a process for producing a detergent granule comprising the step of performing dry neutralization of a mixture of a liquid acid precursor of a linear sodium alkylbenzenesulfonate (LAS-S) and sulfuric acid with a water-soluble solid alkaline inorganic substance in a mixture containing the inorganic substance and a powdery anhydrous Glauver salt, the dry neutralization being performed using sulfuric acid in an amount of 0.1 to 1.0 mole per mole of LAS-S and the powdery anhydrous Glauver salt in an amount of 0.5 to 0.9 mole per mole of the sum of the anhydrous Glauver salt and sulfuric acid; and a high bulk density detergent composition which comprises a detergent granule as specified above or a detergent granule produced by the process and has a bulk density of 500 g/L or more.
