Abstract: A surfactant composition which comprises: (a) a nonionic surfactant having a melting point at 30 DEG C or lower, (b) an anionic surfactant having a sulfonic acid group and (c) a fixing agent for component (a), wherein component (b) is compounded in an amount of 0 to 300 parts by weight relative to 100 parts by weight of component (a) and component (c) is compounded in an amount of 1 to 100 parts by weight relative to 100 parts by weight of component (a), and wherein the composition has (1) a temperature range which is higher than the flowing point of the surfactant composition and in which said composition has the viscosity of 10 Pa.s or less and (2) a temperature range which is lower than the flowing point of the surfactant composition and higher than the melting point of component (a) and in which said composition has a penetration hardness of 100 g/cm or greater. The surfactant composition can be compounded as a component for a non-liquid surfactant composition.

Abstract: A granular detergent composition for clothing comprising a surfactant, a sequestering agent, a crystalline alkali metal silicate, and an acidic agent, which is constituted of at least two types of grains, i.e., first grains containing the crystalline alkali metal silicate and second grains which are acidic because of containing the acidic agent, wherein the crystalline alkali metal silicate is present in the grains different from those containing the acidic agent, and which is alkaline in distilled water at 25 DEG C and has a bulk density of at least 650 g/l; and a washing method using said detergent composition. Containing the crystalline alkali metal silicate in the grains different from those containing the acidic agent offers such an effect that a rise in pH in an early stage of washing can be regulated to provide a better detergency for sebum stains.

Abstract: Particles (a) for detergent addition which comprise 30 to 100 wt.% two or more kinds of water-soluble substances and have an average particle diameter of 150 to 600 mu m, a bulk density of 300 to 1,000 g/L, and a solubility as calculated with the equation (1) of 90% or higher; a particulate composite detergent which is obtained by dry-blending the particles (a) with detergent particles (b) having an average particle diameter of 150 to 600 mu m, a bulk density of 300 to 1,000 g/L, and a surfactant content of 10 to 50 wt.%; and a particulate detergent composition comprising 50 to 100% the particulate composite detergent. The particles for detergent addition are excellent in the ability to dissolve quickly. Abstract: An article for use in washing in the form of a sheet comprising a layer containing a detergent composition and, bound on both sides thereof, water-soluble substrates, wherein the layer also contains particles being water-soluble or falling into pieces on contacting water which have an average particle diameter of 60 to 2,000 mu m. The term "particles being water-soluble or falling into pieces on contacting water" used herein means particles having such a property that when 0.5 g of them are added to 1 liter of water at 10 DEG C, the resultant mixture is stirred at 800 rpm for 10 minutes and then filtered through a 200 mesh sieve, the amount of an oversize residue is less than 0.025 g. The article for use in washing exhibits significantly improved solubility in water.

Abstract: A process for producing granules for supporting a surfactant thereon which comprises a step in which granules having on the surface thereof a coating film containing a water-soluble ingredient are treated so as to have a coating film deficiency; and a process for producing detergent particles which comprises the step of mixing a surfactant composition with the granules obtained by the above process, under such conditions that the surfactant composition is in a liquid state. By the former process, surfactant-supporting granules having improved supporting ability can be obtained without lowering the detergency. Use of these granules can give detergent particles having excellent detergency.

Since the particulate detergent has enhanced solubility and flowability, it can have improved suitability for laundering by hand. Abstract: A washing method wherein washing is performed under such conditions that the pH value of the washing water is elevated after the hardness of the washing water has been lowered; a detergent composition which contains particles capable of retarding alkaline realization of the elevation of the pH value of the washing water after the addition of the same as compared with the lowering of the hardness of the washing water; and a detergent composition containing an alkaline agent coated with an organic or inorganic material the content of which amounts to at least 70 % by weight of the alkaline agents contained in the composition. The washing method and the detergent compositions each achieves an excellent detergency even at a low surfactant concentration, since washing is performed under such conditions that the pH value of the washing water is elevated after the hardness of the washing water has been lowered.
