Abstract: NEW MATERIAL:A chalcone derivative shown by the formula I (R1 is H, or OH3; R2 is 2-24C aliphatic hydrocarbon group). EXAMPLE:4-Methoxy-4'-methyl-branched isostearoyloxychalcone. USE:An ultraviolet light absorber. Protecting effectively the skin from ultraviolet rays having 400-320nm long wavelength. It is blended with a base for cosmetic, and useful as oil for preventing sunburn oil, lotion, skin care cream agent, etc. PREPARATION:A 4-methoxybenzadehyde shown by the formula II is condensed with 4-hydroxyacetophenone shown by the formula III to give an 4-alkoxy-4'-hydroxychalcone shown by the formula IV, which is reacted with an acid chloride shown by the formula V in the presence of a nonnucleophilic basic catalyst or a carboxylic acid anhydride shown by the formula VI and a catalyst such as pyridine, etc. to give a compound shown by the formula I .

Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide the titled UV-absorbent containing a dibenzoylmethane derivative as an active component, capable of absorbing ultraviolet radiation having long wavelength, protecting the skin and preventing the aging of the skin and the formation of spots and freckles, safe to the skin, and absorbable easily through the skin.
CONSTITUTION: The objective agent contains the dibenzoylmethane derivative of formula [X is H, univalent metal cation, organic cation, 1W24C aliphatic hydrocarbon group, or polyoxy(2W3C)alkylene oxide group; Y and Z are hydroxyl, 1W24C aliphatic hydrocarbon group, 1W24C alkoxy, or polyoxy(2W3C)alkylene oxide; m and n are 0W3] as an active component. The amount of the derivative in the composition is generally 0.1W20wt%, preferably 0.5W10wt%. It is preferably used as a normal antisuntan cosmetic by combining with other UV absorbent which absorbs ultraviolet radiation having medium wavelength (320W290nm).
