Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a highly concentrated nonaqueous surfactant with low irritativeness to the skin by neutralizing a specific polyoxyalkylene alkylsulfate with an alkanolamine in a nonaqueous system in the presence of a viscosity depressant. CONSTITUTION:A surfactant comprising an alkanolamine salt of a polyoxyalkylene alkysulfate as the effective active ingredient is obtained by neutralizing a polyoxyalkylene alkylsulfate represented by the general formula RO-(AO)n-SO3H (wherein R is a 6-20C straight chain or branched alkyl and/or alkenyl group; A is a 2-3C alkylene group and/or a group represented by the formula; and n is 1-20 on an average) with a substantially equimolar alkanolamine in a nonaquenous system in the presence of a viscosity depressant. Thus, the surfactant takes the form of a mixed solution consisting of 90-70wt.% of the effective ingredient and 10-30wt.% of the viscosity depressant in concentration.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an amine by reducing a nitrile with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst and ammonia while directly recovering the ammonia at low cost in high efficiency to reuse it. CONSTITUTION:The objective amine of the formula RCH2NH2 can be obtained by reduction of a nitrile of the formula RCN [R is 6-22C alkyl hydroxyalkyl or group of the formula (R and R are each H, 1-6C alkyl or 2-9C hydroxyalkyl; (m) is 1-6)] with hydrogen in the presence of a reducing catalyst (e.g. Raney nickel) and ammonia at 40-200 deg.C under a hydrogen pressure of 10-30kg/cm G. In this case, the nitrile is brought into contact with the hydrogen/ammonia mixed gas in the reactional system at the completion of the reaction to effect absorption of the ammonia from the mixed gas into the nitrile, and the resultant ammonia-contg. nitrile is reused as a feedstock nitrile for the reaction. The amine of this invention is useful as a raw material for surfactants, softening agents, dyes, acidic gas scavengers, or polymers.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To continuously and efficiently obtain an amide useful as a base for softening agents or lubricants, etc., in high quality for a short time from an amine, a fatty acid or its lower alcohol ester using a stirred thin-film reactor. CONSTITUTION:An amine, preferably a compound expressed by the formula [R and R are H, 1-22C alkyl or 2-10C hydroxyalkyl; (l) and (m) are respectively integers of 2-8; (n) is an integer of 0-6] and a straight-chain or branched fatty acid, preferably a compound expressed by the formula R'COOH (R' is 9-21C alkyl) or its lower alcohol ester are continuously fed to a stirred thin-film reactor having rotatable platy blades 2 installed in a casing 1 and preferably reacted under conditions of 240-310 deg.C reaction temperature, 0.5-30min residence time and further 2X10 to 100X10 Reynolds number (Re) and/or 1-25 Froude number (Fr) of a liquid flowing in the thin-film part formed in the aforementioned reactor. Thereby, the objective amide is obtained.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the subject highly pure fatty acids in high yields in energy-saved processes by adding an oil-wetting agent to a mixture of solid fatty acids with liquid fatty acids; cooling the mixture; separating the produced liquid phase from the aqueous phase; washing the liquid phase with water; dehydrating the washed liquid phase; heating the liquid phase for sweating the remaining liquid fatty acids from the solid fatty acids; separating the solid fatty acids, and subsequently dehydrating the separated solid fatty acids. CONSTITUTION:A fatty acid mixture (e.g. beef tallow fatty acids) comprising solid fatty acids and liquid fatty acids are subjected to the steps of cooling the mixture at 30 to -15 deg.C to crystallize the solid fatty acids; adding a wetting agent aqueous solution containing a surfactant and an inorganic electrolyte to the cooled mixture; leaving the mixture at 30 to -15 deg.C; separating the mixture into a solid fatty acid-dispersed aqueous phase and a liquid fatty acid phase; washing the separated liquid fatty acid phase with water; and subsequently dehydrating the separated liquid fatty acid phase to provide the liquid fatty acids (e.g. oleic acid). Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a compound useful as a base for shampoo and base for bubble bath in a short time and high yield by subjecting maleic anhydride to monoesterification with an oxide adduct and then sulfonating the resultant ester with an acid sulfite. CONSTITUTION:Maleic anhydride is subjected to mono-esterification reaction with an alkylene oxide and/or styrene oxide adduct (oxide adduct) of alcohol expressed by the formula RO-(AO)n-H (R is 6-20C alkyl or alkenyl; A is 2-4C alkylene, etc.; n is 1-10) at 80-120 deg.C using at least one stage tubular reactor. The resultant maleic acid monoester expressed by formula I is sulfonated with a sulfurous acid salt and/or acidic sulfurous acid salt containing an alkali agent at a temperature lower by 3-30 deg.C than the temperature in the previous monoesterification reaction using at least one-stage tubular reactor to provide the title compound expressed by formula II (M is H, alkali metal, ammonium, etc.).
